gaming becomes impossible (same time every night)

i can sit on the ps4 for hours during the day with no issues my average speed is between 4-5 mbps
as soon as i try to play at night typically around 11pm-11.30pm my connection becomes completely un-playable and my speed can drop below 1mbps?
No one else is using the internet at this time so i dont understand it?
THis has been happening for months now, should i change my router/ISP ?

Re: gaming becomes impossible (same time every night)

Your exchange is showing as pretty heavily congested, including one VP showing as 'RED'. The good news is that the RED VP is due to be upgraded on the 9th Jan, the bad news is that you're not connected to the RED one. However, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that upgrading this VP will help with your slowdowns.

sorry chris thats all a bit double dutch to me?
would it be normal for the speed to drop at the same time every night significantly if its congested?
also what does VP mean?

Re: gaming becomes impossible (same time every night)

Sorry! VP = Virtual Path, this is a route you traffic takes from the exchange over the backhaul infrastructure. You'll tend to see slowdowns at the same times each night as that's when most people use the connection.

Re: gaming becomes impossible (same time every night)

If the congestion is that heavy then there may not be a huge amount we can do. In these instances I'd always advise opening a fault ticket with information about the problem you're seeing at https://faults.plus.net
