does new route rlead to speed drop

I am new to this forum although Ive been with plusnet for nearly 12mths,  recently I raised an issue with tech help ref my speed after some help from gavin at tech help my speed was increased to 6mbps , I was told to leave router alone but unfortuately I lost internet connection  and after trying to loacate problem I found it was the router ,I ordered a new one my speed is now averaging 4.7 to 4.8mbps,with the new one, is me changing routers causing this slight speed drop from 6mbps to 4.8mbps

Welcome to the forum, as to speed drop depends on what your routers were/are.
It CAN cause a drop but it should recover if the router is the same model, or it maybe that the new one just syncs lower. E.g. my ST716 would sync at  7Mb but the HH2 I replaced it with was 6Mb

thanks hairy biker ,I was usin a plusnet tg585 v8  I borrowed a Tp w8960n to check when my connection went down and also while waiting for new  ,I have now received a thompson(plusnet}  tg 582n  so I dont know if this makes any difference
