connecting a router to a router

Hi

I've just been given a new smart hub 2 router to replace the old one. I have a Netgear switch connected to the smart hub via an ethernet cable. This played nicely with the old router but comes up with an error this time

" ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

The manager on the smart hub shows that the switch is connected. ( Netgear GS608 v2)

can anyone help as the operative on the help number on Plusnet says they are not qualified to help.....

thanks

Darryl

Re: connecting a router to a router

OK, so the pc isn't getting an IP address via DHCP.

The pc is ( I assume ) connected to the gs308 ? Which is connected to a LAN port on the smart hub ?

Did the pc and switch remain connected whilst the router was swapped ?

If so have you tried either

Disconnecting and reconnecting the pc from the switch

Or

From a cmd window , ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew

Re: connecting a router to a router

yes tried switching everything off pulling all plugs out and reassembling.

its a GS 608 v2 a bit old I know. but it was working.

ipconfig / release   says no ip is associated with this network

ipconfig /renew   just hangs

Re: connecting a router to a router

Does the laptop get an ip address if connected directly to the smart hub ?

Is everything else connected to the gs308 working OK?

Re: connecting a router to a router

I thought id checked that earlier

The pc is ( I assume ) connected to the gs308 ? Which is connected to a LAN port on the smart hub ?

the WAN port is only for connecting to either a vdsl modem or an FTTP  ONT
