so if we stay connected we should get about 4 megs still need to reconnect the sky if it holds but will cross that bridge when i get to it.
thank you very much for your help so far  hopefully you can check back and i will post when either i disconnect or even better when i dont and am about to reconnect the sky box

Now don't touch the new setup for a minimum of 72 hours, and DON'T switch the router off, this will give the line profile a chance to raise - hopefully to around 4meg.
During the next four days, just keep an eye on whether you are still experiencing line drops.  Then post back your results so we can suggest your next move before changing anything.

Not touching anything but 4 days does feel a  long time especially if i lose my connection again

guessing sky box is not my problem with the disconnections as overnight i disconnected and had to reconnect it myself on the voyager page this morning still at a fastwr speed than it was so something did change by unplugging sky

disconnected again so changed PPPoA to PPPoE as advised by another forum user though am beginning to feel a new router will be needed doesnt explain how my speed increaed after unplugging sky

Are you using the test socket or the master socket

in the master socket having removed sky and an extension cable speed test today
Today 17:18 3324 kbps (416kB/s) 378 kbps (47.3kB/s)
Today 13:28 3515 kbps (439kB/s) 380 kbps (47.5kB/s)
compared to average last week, last month, the last year lol
Thursday 12:44 2382 kbps (298kB/s) 375 kbps (46.9kB/s)

after each reconnection so faster than before why what have i done wrong lol

You need to use the test socket behind the lower half of the master socket and see if the line remains stable.
Using the master socket means that your internal wiring could still cause problems

ok not sure i see how the test socket uses different wiring to the master as i will be plugging in exactly the same plug in just behind the faceplate  the only wiring is that which runs from the bt socket to outside i have no other cables attached

If, when you remove the lower faceplate, there are no wires attached then you are correct but if there are then that means you have internal wiring which can affect things

hubby said under the plate there is no other internal wiring having had it off before and checked it. our box is it from outside to master socket

In which case the test socket won't be necessary at this stage.
I think you will need to wait for a Digital Care Team member to arrive on Monday and have a look at the stability of your line.
The best thing you can do now is just leave it alone with just the router and phone connected so that they can see what is happening

just to say since i  changed PPPoA to PPPoE yesterday for the first time i am still connected the next day Online Time 1 days 0 hours 9 mins 10 secs doesnt usually hold beyond 15 hours so if this hold  i s there a chance they can up my speed there end i wonder down to someone from admin to answer that one for me
