You will need to do manual setup as it is geared to your line

Actually you will need to do more than that. You will need to ring Plusnet and ask them to de-register it from your account. You could ask them to put it on your daughter's account if you want, but it's set up to register to your account not your line.

Re: can i give my plusnet router to my daughter

The actual registration process used by Plusnet checks against the account and the phone line so i can't auto setup without both matching the registration number of the router and sets it up to the associated account name

I'm pretty sure I recall a Staff post confirming what Oldjim says, I have searched but can't find it right now though.
As I understand (if memory serves correctly), any Plusnet account details in a router will authenticate on any Plusnet line but Auto-config should only work on the assigned line.

Re: can i give my plusnet router to my daughter

As an example of what can go wrong, I remember a thread from a while ago that started with a complaint about 'phantom' usage.  It turned out the complainant had given an old 'spare' Plusnet router to a relative (his daughter, if I recall correctly).  But the router was still set up with his credentials so when the daughter started using it then her usage was registered against his account.

Perfectly correct RR..Oldjim is thinking of the way BT broadband authenticates which is against the phone number, whilst Plusnet's TR-069 system authenticates against the serial number of the modem/router.

Re: can i give my plusnet router to my daughter

Very occasionally I have had cause to take the router I use at home (which is a Netgear DG834PN, not one supplied by Plusnet) to the homes of other Plusnet clients in the area.  It has always connected to the Internet using my own (pre-programmed) user name and password, even on a different telephone exchange.

See this thread. It would have been better to keep all the information in one thread and amend the title if needed by editing the first post.

I wasn't but have asked for clarification as I had previously be advised differently - at least that was what I understood

Re: can i give my plusnet router to my daughter

I gave my Mum my technicolor router (PN only suplied my Mum with the old blue non wireless one)  and while it worked and logged usage to my Mum's account, every month or so the router would lose her details so I had to do a manual setup. I got intouch with PN and they registered the router with my Mum's details and it has been fine since.
It took less than 5 minutes on the phone so it is pretty straight forward if you want to go ahead and give your daughter your router.

Re: can i give my plusnet router to my daughter

As I remarked in the other thread, if the details aren't changed/removed at Plusnet, the "problem" will arise after a reset.
