Thought i'd update this post as I've had a couple of ideas...
Since moving to the test socket I am seeing little to no difference, although I am now seeing regular disconnects, could I be right in thinking that it is bottle necking?
Reason I say this is I am at the moment suspecting that I had an extension line fault, I know that I wont see an instant difference in using the test socket and it will take time, but I'm thinking that due to the extension problems my SNR has already been raised significantly, could this be causing me the regular disconnects now? As i'm syncing at around 10561 but my Plusnet profile is 13.3mb?
This is just my logical way of thinking so I'm probably totally wrong but thought it was worth asking lol

Ok I seem to have found the problem and as a result am going to have to admit to being a bit of a tit 
Used the BT quiet line service (didn't know about it) and found some noise on the line.
In a moment of sheer desperation I went out and bought a new modem (£80), didnt resolve the noise, so went out and bought a new micro-filter, still didn't change, then I went all paranoid about buying a cheap micro-filter so went out and bought another more expensive one lol, didn't resolve the noise, swapped between old router, new router, borrowed router etc... again didn't resolve anything, then it dawned on me, I was using the same wire that went from the micro-filter to the router each time (laziness if I'm honest as I had to move things), so managed to convince myself that wouldnt be the issue, another 2 hours down the line, decided to use the new wire... noise gone 
Now my question is how soon can I get the SNR reset back to 6? lol, and what do I do when it is reset? Do I reboot router? or just leave it be?

No worries, that's some impressive humility there
I can understand that it's easy to over look cables as being the source of the problem, I've done it myself before (albeit relating to some musical equipment rather than a router).
