I've recently started to get frequent disconnects (between 1 and 2 a day) after a long period of a perfectly stable connection. My setup is a Linux PC running as a router connected to a ZyXel P660R-D1 modem in bridge mode. I recently replaced the motherboard in the router PC and the disconnects started then.
Now, I know that it seems obvious that I've changed something therefore that must be the problem, but I'm not convinced. What seems to happen is that the ZyXel completely dies, I can no longer ping it's internal IP nor telnet to it, and only a power cycle will allow me to reconnect. All the PPP connection settings are the same in the new setup. The Thinkbroadband ping monitor shows packet loss starting a few minutes before the connection drops:
No amount of extra logging on the router or setting debug on pppd has shed any light onto why the connection is dropping. Wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this?
