You're not doing me proud...

I was having broadband speed problems, and a month or two ago you kindly sent me a new router - one that doesn't need a modem and connects straight to the wall socket.  So far so good - my broadband speed is now at 11/12mbps, whereas before it was only 1-2.

However, since then I've had problems with the router randomly not broadcasting a signal.  It has got progressively worse and is now dropping out about 3-4 times a day.  My PC (or laptop, or phone, kindle - all devices) says it's not connected to a wifi network.  When I check, my router is simply not showing in the list of devices available.  It shows my neighbour's router from 2 doors down but not mine.  I raised a fault (when you could still do this via My Account), and was told that there had been a line problem but it had been fixed.  But we're still having problems, and it's getting worse.  Also, the range of the router is really bad compared to what it was before - it doesn't even reach into the next room.

If I press restart on top of the router, it flashes for a while and a few minutes later, it's working again, my PC connects and all is well.  Until it goes down again.

My husband works from home, so a stable internet connection is vital.  We've gone from rubbish speed to great speed but flaky connection.  I now can't seem to raise any broadband faults via your website, and the only options are Chat, which is never available, or Phone - which always states you're very busy and I'd have to wait around 40 minutes.  So much for having UK call centres - not much use if there's nobody home.

Please tell me what I can do?  We've just signed up for another year, but beginning to regret it.

If anyone from PlusNet is listening, when I tried to use the internet this morning, lo and behold it was down again. Our router name was not appearing in the list of Wifi routers to connect to.

I thought I'd be savvy today and grabbed a laptop and plugged it in directly to the router, to see if the router was connected to the internet but just not sending out a signal to the house. Connected to the router straight away, but no internet connection. All this time a steady blue light on the router, but when I tried to connect to the internet via the wired connection suddenly the router seems to realise there is a problem and starts to flash orange then the broadband light comes on.

I press reset, and we're now back up and running again.

I thought I'd get the event log and post it (see previous post), in case it throws up anything useful. Note that from 07:57 this morning until the time I start fiddling with the router at about 08:40, the system suddenly thinks it's March!  

Can anyone offer any suggestions, as this is driving us nuts. My husband is working this weekend, and yesterday when it went down in the middle of the day, he lost a bunch of stuff he had been doing online.  He's working again today, so it would be really nice to think that the router is going to work today.

2.5Ghz - changed from channel 1 to channel 6

Thanks for your message. So far it has stayed up since I made the change. Before it was set to the Smart setting (where it automatically chooses the right channel). It seems picking a channel manually and sticking to it is working for now. Could this be the solution?

The smart setting isn't as smart as you'd think I'm afraid

What it actually means is when you reboot the router it'll pick the best wireless channel and then stick with that one until the next reboot.

Personally I'd always recommend doing it manually

Well, the router has been stable all week since fixing the channels.  However Saturday morning when I tried to connect the router was not broadcasting a signal again.  The light was blue, but neither my phone, kindle, PC or laptop plugged in directly had internet.

Another router restart.  What could be causing this?

Then I'm just in the middle of trying to paste the event log, and it goes down for a third time.

Not using smart channels - still set to 6 (2.5ghs) and 36 (5ghz).

Will try to post event log again (if it stays up long enough).

Can you help?  Saturday mornings seem to be the worst for the router.

Hi @ClaireS, I am sorry that you are experiencing issues.

We are aware of an issue with Kindles connected to the network relating to the Hub One's firmware. Could you temporarily keep the Kindle turned off for the time being?

That being said, I can see that the line itself incurred a few drops earlier on today but would be worth ruling out this as a cause.

Could you let us know how you get on?

Good grief, Lauren, you're right.  It's my Kindle.

The network has been fine all day since I spoke to support this morning.  I figured it's because they told me to unscrew the faceplate on my wall connection and connect a micro filter.

But after I read your post, I grabbed my Kindle, started surfing and poof - down went the broadband and I had to restart the router.

So, we've found the problem - what can we do about it?  My Kindle worked fine with my previous router, but you replaced my router with the new one because of speed problems.  So now my speed has gone from 1-2mpbs to 11-12, but now it seems it's going to flake out every time I use my Kindle.  Is there a fix on the way?

Glad to hear we've found the cause of the problem.

Could you go to your router settings at http://192.168.1.254 and confirm the firmware version from the very bottom? 

I suspect it'll show either 4.7.5.1.83.8.259 or 4.7.5.1.83.8.259.1.1

If that's the case, we can either arrange a downgrade to the previous firmware or if you're happy we can upgrade you to an engineering build that is currently in testing.
