At the 14 day point it was measured at 1.25Mbps.
From https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed my current line speed is 0.25Mb
From the BT Speedtester I get:
Quote Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.07 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.05 Mbps-0.25 Mbps.
Your DSL Connection Rate :2.62 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.14 Mbps
Other broadband speed testers rate my download bandwidth at about 0.125Mbps and my upload at about 0.35Mbps (?!)
The modem is an X2000 plugged into the master socket (behind the faceplate), with no phones plugged in anywhere and no extensions connected. The laptop (I've tried a few of them) is on ethernet to the modem-router. Nothing else connected to the modem is switched on, and there are no wireless connections.
Speed has deteriorated over the last few months to be pretty much unusable.
Next steps, anyone?

As you appear to be on 20CN it can take up to 72 hours for the profile to increase
As a start can you post your router stats - noise margin, speed and attenuation.
Also can you advise how your router is connected to the telephone system - at the master socket, another socket in the house, a long connecting cable, etc.

The router shows a downstream rate of 2624 Kbps and an upstream rate of 448 Kbps.
These damned X2000's don't show the other statistics (I'll go give 'em a rubbish rating on Amazon in revenge) -- would the best way to get those to be to plug in a different router?
The modem's plugged into the master socket.
Thanks.

Do you have any other telephone points in the property and is everything filtered - specially Sky boxes
DNS lookup failures where a retry finds it isn't a disconnection problem - I get this quite frequently and I have no idea why

(and we complain about PN not reading the whole ticket/topic! )

Hmmm next time I'll give it a ping 8.8.8.8 to see if i really am disconnected. Rebooting the router seems to be the only thing that fixes it though.

Quote from: Jameseh The line is also erroring quite badly
Would that be an issue with the physical line itself?

Errored seconds are often caused by internal wiring problems. However as you've said (and Jim missed) you're connected to the test socket.
I'd suggest swapping out the filter and/or router if at all possible to see if you see an improvement.
If no joy after that, it's a quick trip to http://faults.plus.net
I take it the drops shown in my graphs aren't all a case of you rebooting the router, or are they?

It certainly looks like that the line's been under-performing since you joined as the Fault Threshold Rate reported is low. The line ought to be capable of a downstream sync of around 4.5Mbps.
Edit: Which version of the X2000 is it you've got?

OK -- well I have tried a couple of filters, and i'll see if i can borrow a router.
The drops could well be me rebooting, as I keep getting DNS lookup failures that I can only fix with a reboot. Next time it happens (which i guarantee will be soon based on past performance) I'll try an IP-based ping test to see if the connection is down and pull the log from the router to see if that's illuminating. With another laptop i was using OpenDNS though and that had similar issues so i sus[pect that the connection really was lost.
Thanks.
