Would uncapping my Upload help?

Hello,

We always have issues with video calls from our broadband, receiving is fine, it is our sent picture and video which is poor. Would uncapping our upload limit help? Or is there something else that can be done? we have tried a wired access to the router and we are into the main BT socket in our home. We get around 6-7mb download and 0.3mb upload on the BT speedtest. Our stats are below. Thanks.

Re: Would uncapping my Upload help?

Your upload is already uncapped based on the stats you've attached.

Can you try a wired connection?

The fact that your router reports -

        "DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A"

        "Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,093 / 9,046"

shows that the connection is already uncapped.

From those stats, you shouldn't have any problems, so the issue lies elsewhere -

  • Are you doing those speed tests over wireless ? - try an ethernet connected PC.
  • Your exchange might be congested, but that usually only affects download speeds.
  • Switch off ALL other PCs, phones, tablets, consoles, etc, then repeat the speed test.
  • Are you using Windows-10, BitTorrent, or iPhones when trying to make video calls ?.
  • Try a different speed tester, e.g. speedtest.net or mybroadbandspeed.co.uk
  • Are you using mains 'homeplugs' ? - as you might be connected via your neighbours router.
  • Have you tried enabling any 'QoS' features that you router might have ?
