Re: Would I be better on Pro

Performance is noticeably better on the CDN served sites and in general.
I'm still of he opinion that PN's DNS platform lags a bit at times though

Did Pro users have a good experience during the recent heavy traffic?

Honestly,  so far i think you'd be better off with virgin broadband. Never had problems until i switched to plus net

Re: Would I be better on Pro

PN have been reasonable till past couple of days but have been using a lot of sites that are on the Content Delivery Networks which are restricted on most of the packages
As for Virgin, cant get them where I am unless I use ADSL which I used to and frankly they were dire (unreliable DNS but did not know of OpenDNS then and could be very slow but am talking late 2005)
Have a couple of friends on cable and they complain the service is quite slow
Big plus for PN is the 24/7 support and I don't remember Virgin doing that either

Re: Would I be better on Pro

@gogeta126
Certain download speeds are restricted at peaktimes so that Gaming and other time sensitive applications are prioritised. There have been some network issues lately and PN are working hard to get them resolved. It's not been helped by lots of extra traffic on the network as a result of poeple working from home because of the snow.
Rest assurred, PN will do what it can to solve your issues if you approach things in an appropriate way, and you are not the only one that's been affected so they won't be ignoring it.
PS. A tip, there is no need to fully quote immediately preceeding posts, apart from which it's against forum rules.
HTH.

Re: Would I be better on Pro

FYI also have experience of Virgin as they operate the analogue cable TV here in MK
It went down last week so I mailed them stating clearly it was basic analogue relay (no set top box, basically an aerial feed from a facility near to where my exchange is funnily enough)
Got a response 48 hours later telling me to reboot the STB!
By this time it had magically corrected itself.
Was also a mobile customer for 4 years and had a problem receiving texts, did all the obvious clear the inbox, reseat the SIM, etc and still nowt so rang them up and waited 25 minutes, "We'll just send a profile update message, give it an hour"
Did so and then tried to semd a text only for it to come up message failed so rang again "Oh dear, it appears you were set to receive only"

So would I trust Virgin Media with my Internet connection, I think not.

Re: Would I be better on Pro

Pro is definitely better though I might move to a non traffic managed provider for a cheaper price when my usage falls back toward the end of the year as I am thrashing the connection somewhat more than I would at present than I would do normally and I am a bit miffed that PN throttle stuff like MS updates on the cheaper products.
Will def keep home phone and will be back at some point.

Re: Would I be better on Pro

checked everything... download speed <4mbps  upload about 200kbps
i reported my problem in the "unacceptable ping" thread.
and even before when my ping was fine the torrent downloads were still slow.
Direct downloads go as high as 400kbps+

Re: Would I be better on Pro

I would suggest then there is something wrong with your torrent config, I can regularly hit 500k..
