Wifi drops when landline rings

Is this a known fault please?  Our Plusnet router sometimes loses internet when we get a landline call. Also the 'phone can sometimes have a slight crackle or buzz on the line.  Router light goes to orange and takes a minute or 2 to reset once call is complete.  Cable is plugged straight into the socket for both the 'phone and router, with no in-line filter.  I can report as a fault, if someone can tell me how to explain it - is there a known term for this?  Obviously hope it shows itself when an engineer visits.

Yes, @Bellamory You certainly have a fault. The only way to report this is via the faults bot - see https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/ , and report it as a phone fault.

@MaxSync It is pointless posting images inline - for reasons which I still cannot fathom, they have to go through 'moderation' before anyone other than the originator and mods/SU's can see them.

Until it gets sussed and closed, the only way to avoid such 'moderation' is to post them as attachments.

Re: Wifi drops when landline rings

I wonder at what point Openreach will start to refuse to repair landline voice faults ?, given that the final phase of removing all UK analogue telephones starts after 31st December 2025, with 90 day termination of phone service notifications expected any time now, and huge price increases for voice line rental due to hit in April, and July, and October 2026.

@Bellamory perhaps you need to start researching how to migrate your landline phone number to a third party VoIP provider.

Re: Wifi drops when landline rings

I do not understand how the WIFI can drop when the phone rings.  The external circuit and the WIFI network do not interfere with each other.

Inbound calls can impact the operation of the router's link to the exchange, but that is not WFI.  The issue you describe cab be caused by a faulty filter.  Does you phone socket have two holes or are you using a 'dongle' filter?

If it has two holes, remove the faceplate and insert the dongle filter which came with the router, into the test socket and retest.  After that it is an external issue, either a line fault, or more probably a line card in the exchange.

@Townman

I do not understand how the WIFI can drop when the phone rings.

There is a trend to describe home access to the internet as "WiFi" as that is the medium used to connect to it.
