WiFi improvement with BT Wi-Fi Home Hotspot 500 Add-on,

I am trying to improve the strength if my wifi signal in rooms furthest away from where my Plusnet (Technicolcor) router is situated.
I have bought and installed the following:
1. A BT Broadband Extender Flex 500 Kit with Passthrough Powerline Adapters
and
2. A  BT Wi-Fi Home Hotspot 500 Add-on, Powerline Adapter
I have checked that these work using cables (with my tablet and phone wifi disconnected) and they work perfectly indicating the signal must be being transferred correctly through the electrical wiring.
Also the wifi signal indicator on my tablet/ and hone show a full set of bars near the Hotspot addon, again suggesting the the signal improvement is working.
However, when I try to connect using my password, my tablet and phone seem to indicate that they are connecting (suggesting the the password has been accepted) but, almost immediately, they give a message "obtaining  IP address" but they don't seem to find an IP address and I do not get connected.
I have tried to manually change the channel selection on the Technicolor router to 12 but this did not help.
Can anybody please offer any suggestions for fixing this problem.
Thanks
