Why is my guaranteed speed reduced everytime

Hi All,
So I'm left pondering why I bother with a landlines, now I have reliable 4g where I live. I used EE a few year ago while waiting for the cabinet to come live and had better speed than what I get now!

This is the 3rd time my guranteed speed is reduced on renewal. When I first got connected at this property I was guranteed 30mb. Granted I had issues and had openreach out a lot to resolve issues but on 2nd renewal they dropped me to 25mb guaranteed which has been stable at that speed for 18 month. However my latest guaranteed speed is coming back at 20mb. At this rate I'll be 15mb in 18 months time.

Any idea why they drop this when I have a stable connection?

@guppy02

Have you had a look at the following to see what it says.

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

Post a screen image with the narrative but hiding you details for advice on what it says.

Re: Why is my guaranteed speed reduced everytime

Seems all aboveboard still don't get why they want to only settle at 20mb.

Re: Why is my guaranteed speed reduced everytime

@guppy02

This shows you should get a speed of somewhere between 45 and 27 down.

The key figure is on the Impacted line which shows the Handback Threshold is 22.4 - this is the figure which OR work to and appears to be what PN quote as Minimum speed. PN are only following OR's lead.

Re: Why is my guaranteed speed reduced everytime

I assume this is a FTTC, not FTTP, connection?

If so, could FTTC now be on the same glidepath as seemed apparent with ADSL 2+?

Re: Why is my guaranteed speed reduced everytime

@guppy02   were it me I would report a speed fault and get PN to investigate why your speeds are so much slower than the estimates.

Maybe before that are you plugged into a filtered master socket or an extension?

And do you have any noise on the libe - dial 17070 option 2?

Re: Why is my guaranteed speed reduced everytime

@pvmb

For information, FTTC shows as VDSL on the Checker results. WBC FTTP is not shown so it must be FTTP.

@Mustrum

Unless I've mis-read the initial post the OP isn't complaining about slow speed but asking why the guarenteed speed keeps dropping each renewal.

Re: Why is my guaranteed speed reduced everytime

@bmc   and therein lies the problem!

The guaranteed speed gets reduced when the line speed goes down, hence if you don;t complain or get anything done about it come upgrade time and you get presented with a new lower MGS!

It would be interesting to hear from what the MGS was on the last contract renewal -  that should be the minimum speed to use, and what PN will try and ensure the OP gets - if they raise a fault. If not they are deemed to agree to the new MGS.

So @guppy02  it is up to you!
