its true twisted pairs cancel out their out their opposite phased magnetic feilds
i know that

I thought it work on the common mode  rejection principle , but I could be wrong. Also the signal levels of the ADSL signal is many magnitudes higher then what is picked up on an antenna

Why do you believe that they use twisted pairs?

As far as I can find out, the cables supplied with the 3 wireless routers that I have so far used are not twisted pair. They are 'flat cord' specification AWM 20251 - 26 AWG, Stranded Bare Copper Conductor . see here
You can buy category 3, 4 and 5 ADSL modem cables (rj11 to rj11) but you will pay a premium for them.
LAN cables are, however, usually Category 5 twisted pair.

Re: Where to put the Router?

You don't need to cut the insulation back - just read what is printed on the cable and look up its specification. If it is category 3, 4 or 5 it generally brags about it on the cable.
The cable that I am currently using says '26 AWG   AWM 20251' on it. Google it and read the specs (e.g. here - 8th one in the list)

Re: Where to put the Router?

sorry tony the print  well its to small to read
but
IT IS FLAT CABLE
plusnet would need to read this
to confirm what cat phone/adsl cable  comes with their Thompson 1port Ethernet routers
if its untwisted then Keep the length small
if its twisted still keep it small because its feeding pre- amplifiers in the modem router  wireless circuits
it best to use ethernet long cabling post router
