As of last night during peak time i noticed that the level3 transit peering route changed to a couple of transatlantic destinations, so the latency showed an increase as a direct result of this change in routing and then at around 4am this morning routing reverted back to normal again
Until 1:44 pm today when it got switched again
that although isnt part of plusnets own network it's in the control of their peering partners who are getting a raw deal, because one of these locations i have monitored from another source and no increase in latency is seen
The 3 hops that are are the problem to this destination, Route to Paris ,
ae-48-48.ebr1.Paris1.Level3.net
ae-71-71.csw2.Paris1.Level3.net
ae-72-72.ebr2.Paris1.Level3.net
latency is normally 153-4ms
The other is lb-onl-vh-wspub01.ubisoft.com Which is set not to respond to ICMP requests
but you can get a reasonable idea of the true latency if you ping the hop if-5-2.tcore1.W6C-Montreal.as6453.net Pings have increased to over 100ms normally are 89-91ms Both of these destinations are associated with online gaming so why are level3 changing routing for plusnet and not other isp's at the times that people are more likely to play online games, crazy, can someone please look into this for me, as it's bad enough with the congestion /jitter/ lower than normal throughput each night between 8pm to 11pm ish without level 3 adding to things

Thanks for pointing that out. Interestingly Level 3 don't appear to have reported anything according to their website and their Twitter feed.
Let us know if you spot anything else like that.

It maybe something plusnets side, or BT's if any of those hops are shared with them, as such, But it shouldn't be being diverted (steampowered.com) via Paris, that's the reason or part of the reason why latency is increased for that destination, as for the other one, they may be switching some links there also, but it's still getting routed the most direct way, ie, London,NewYork. Montreal But the oddest part is that the same destinations are being affected from other ISP networks, but it isn't a good thing for plusnet customers who use steam there game has to authenticate with the ubisoft server in Canada

Are you using google dns by any chance?
If steam are using anycast to send you to the closes server, using google dns may explain routing through France.

Goggle DNS No not using their dns, The routing is being switched back & forth for some odd reason or other, Last night it was the first time in nearly 3 weeks it has done this, and it wasn't only steampowered.com that increased in base latency levels, both destinations today increased at the same time on the ubisoft target , the level3 transit links are being changed from the first hop outside plusnet's network switch te-4-2.car5.London1.Level3.net, ae-52-52.csw2.London1.Level3.net &ae-227-3603.edge3.London1.Level3.net at least 1 of the 2 in bold are not normally there in-between the first level23 hop and the first as6453.net hop, normally it's 12-14 hops currently its 17, and latency is 20ms higher, but also isnt a stable 20ms as6453net always has had a lot of jitter, as it's obviously used by almost every ISP ,so will be subject to be overloaded or close to overloaded frequently ,so the lower the base latency is the less rubber banding /lag or put another way isn't as prominent in game
