Whats Happened now

About 2/3 months ago Dan H sorted my download speeds out for me and for the first time I could use my smart TV, achieving regular speeds of 3.5]+mbps, now my speeds are back down to 2+.
Please Dan wave your magic Harry Potter wand and restore my speeds, and my faith back to what they were  Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

Re: Whats Happened now

Hi,
Thanks for letting us know. I'm tweaking some line settings for you. This should have an impact in the next four hours or so. I've made a note to check this afternoon.

Hi,
I've tweaked the line settings, but as yet no changes have been seen. I've created a ticket on your account so that I can keep an eye on this for you.

Re: Whats Happened now

Thanks Tony, what I cant understand is one minute I am getting 3.5+kbps and the next minute less than  2kbps, no changes at this end so it has got to be PlusNets problem,  Huh

Re: Whats Happened now

What normally happens is the equipment at your exchange and your router / modem continually adjust for the best performance while keeping your line stable. It will reduce the speed down to a level where you don't get many disconnections.
What is the fastest continual speed you've managed on your line (even with previous ISP's) ?

Re: Whats Happened now

I'll assume you mean 3.5Mbs Wink
Often lines will degrade over time so what was maybe once a faster speed can no longer be reliably attained. If you have Virgin Media cable/fibre in your area then maybe look at that as a solution - they run their own cables so aren't reliant on BTOR for maintaining the lines.
Have you checked with any neighbours to see what sort of speeds they are managing to get ?
Moving to another ISP who will all use the same wire between the exchange and your house will unlikely result in a more stable speed and you may end up dealing with a company who aren't quite as friendly as Plusnet.
I do feel your pain though as when I first moved into my current property I ended up with around a 4Mb connection (having come from a 30Mb+ Virgin Media connection).

Re: Whats Happened now

The line was checked just 2/3 months ago by open reach (after my speeds dropped drastically ) and according to the engineer the line checked out at 4+mbs and I should easily achieve speeds of 3.5+  the next thing I knew was a message from PN to say that the fault had been sorted out at their end and low and behold I had speeds of 3.5+ and at last I could use my smart TV that was up to last Sat , then bingo down to less than 2mbs, has improved to 2.25mbs but that is still below what bI was promised at the sign up day. Angry Angry Angry Angry
I just wonder what they would do if I just stopped my direct debit for their poor service. HuhHuhHuhHuh? When I was with BT my speeds were always at approx 3.7mbs, I only changed because PN offered me the same speeds at a lower cost Sad Sad Sad

Re: Whats Happened now

Never a good idea to stop the DD payment as then you're in breach of contract etc. etc.
Do be prepared if you move to another provider for similar if not worse issues. Occasionally though customers have moved and attained better speeds with a different ISP. This would prove it isn't always down to the state of the copper line in some cases.
If you are looking to move and don't mind paying a bit extra for a company who specialise in sorting line issues (which may or may not be your problem) then have a read up on AAISP - we used to push customers their way when they weren't having much luck with BT's offerings. They are expensive but are set up to deal with slow or intermittent issues.

Re: Whats Happened now

Nooooooooooooooo Sad
I'm saddened to see the speeds have dropped again.
I can see Tony had been working on this yesterday and managed to get your SNR down but its jumped straight back up again. Leave this with me for a an hour or two and I'll see what I can do.

Your saddened Dan, what about me  Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry
Was without an internet connection earlier today, now the speeds have dropped even more.  Shocked Shocked Shocked
I know you try your best to help members Dan, but honestly I am fed up to the back teeth with PN, I was sold this package on the understanding that I would achieve speeds o0f 3+mb which would enable me to use my smart TV, this is not so (well some of the time it is but most of the time its not) so if you cant help me Dan, I can only see one outcome to this sorry situation,.   Sad Sad Sad
Regards Bob
PS...Have just checked the speed and its down to  1.75mb  Cry Cry Cry

Do feel for you Robert - been there - with a line behaving like yours.
Hope PN's team sort the issues out....
If still no joy,
Take a look a AAISP* if you do. They will sort your line out  when all else fails.

With regards to the issue with your line, I can honestly say that moving providers really isn't going to resolve the issue here, as it's an issue being caused with the equipment between your router and your Local Exchange. Most* other providers use the exact same infrastructure as we do. what we need to do, is look at what piece of equipment is causing this problem and getting it fixed.
Whilst I appreciate it's frustrating, it's important that we work together to ensure we get your connection back to where it should be. Faults do happen from time to time and it could have been caused by any number of things ranging from external works being carried out by a third party, to the copper on your line becoming degraded, degraded so much that it will not longer hold a connection (just examples of course).
I've popped an update on the ticket that Dan is looking after for you, just to give some additional information that I've found on your line which I think will go some way to help resolve this issue for you.
Whilst we aim to provide the best possible speeds that any lines we provide on can support, it's inevitable that faults will happen, we'll do our best to restore service back to you again as quickly as possible.

*Virgin Media and LLU Providers are an exception

Re: Whats Happened now

Thanks for your input Chris, I do hope that my speed problems can be resolved, last night I had switch my PC off because I couldn’t connect to the internet at all.
I know that all forums have to have rules but with regards to the rule of the use emoticons,  I would suggest that the wording of that particular rule be modified, it does not specifically prohibit the use of 4 or more smiley’s, if taken literary it seems to suggest that it us up to the poster to decide within reason how many smilies to use, and being a reasonable posterHuh? in future I will stick to only 4 smilies per comment LOL  Roll eyes Roll eyes Roll eyes Roll eyes
Looking forward to getting my 3mb again.
Regards Bob
PS...Just checked my speeds 3.07Mb  Grin Grin Grin Grin Thanks to all the PN team.
