What's the point?

I live a half a mile from the exchange. I'm currently on ADSL Max 8MB and sync at 8128.
My exchange has finally become ADSL2+ enabled, so I thought, well, if I get the maximum speed now, then surely I should at least double my current speed by upgrading.
So, can anyone explain why, after touting this as the next generation ADSL broadband connection, I'll hardly see any increase?

Re: What's the point?

What makes you think you've been upgraded? All your other posts seem to indicate you are still on ADSL1.

Not sure how this statement is confusing you.
I'm asking what's the point in upgrading if, even with my excellent line stats, I still wont get anything like the claimed 'upto 24MB'.

Why do you say you'll hardly see any increase as others have?
You appear to have very good stats.

Re: What's the point?

The screenshot I posted was taken from information supplied by BT Wholesale. It clearly shows an estimated speed of 9. I currently get 7. It's meant to be upto 24. What else should I infer from it?

Re: What's the point?

Why are you not complaining that it says you will only get 7Mb when you are actually getting 8Mb?
You should regard the ADSL2+ estimate in the same light!
Edit: Did you put your postcode or the phone number in to the checker?

Yes.
But rather than waste effort on hypotheticals and the limitations of BT's estimates, please post some REAL stats from your router and we can give you a much more REALISTIC estimate.  Wink

Or you can do it yourself: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php

Why should I? Huh
I sync at 8128 - the maximum I can. I get 7150 - the maximum available.
Therefore, ADSL2+ should give me the same kind of increase - at least double if not more. I hardly think 2MB is ADSL2+. Do you?

Would it even work without one?

That shows a much better figure - so how do I know what to believe?

Re: What's the point?

The ultimate test of course is an actual ADSL2+ connection but the BT test result is, by it's own admission a very conservative figure.

Re: What's the point?

I was asking which you put in - if you put in the postcode it tends to be more inaccurate than if you put in your telephone number.

Fair enough. But there's conservative and conservative. Kitz says my Ip profile should increase from 7150 to 19000!
