What router comes with 17mb Broadband?

What router does PlusNet use now?

I was with plusnet a couple of years ago and the router provided 582n the wireless on it was bad, I moved to sky who as they had a much better wireless router. Don't want to go back if they are using the same router.

Re: What router comes with 17mb Broadband?

I have the 2704n that PN provided when I joined nearly two and a half years ago, and have had no problem with the wi-fi.  I don't use wi-fi a lot since my broadband is quite slow and it's important to squeeze every Mbps out of it, but when I do and measure my speed, it's only marginally below what I get via the ethernet cable.

PlusNet have always been happy for customers to use their own equipment (the settings are listed on a Support page) so if you like PlusNet but not their router you can buy your own.

I think this depends on the hardware. It might be possible to flash it with the manufacturer's standard firmware.

For about £30 you can buy a BTSmarthub 6 off Ebay and have a much better router.

I agree.  I currently use BT Homehub 5A and it has fantastic Wi-Fi signal.  I have been using it for past 2 years and have no complaints.

@chandu

For the record your BT HH5A is the same hardware as the Plusnet Hub One, only the firmware is different. To compare the WiFi performance with the latest BT offering see here: https://www.businessdirect.bt.com/content/uni2/documentation/c6nx/bt_smart_hub_test_report.pdf.

OK thanks for the replies, would love to use my sky one as the wireless has been great but you can't unfortunately use it with another provider.

Thanks, but I had my BT HomeHub5A before PN's new router/modem.

Re: What router comes with 17mb Broadband?

@skysnapper  - the 2704N is only single band and a bit rubbish.

I've just bought a BT Smarthub 6 (Business Edition) for £33 brand new from eBay thanks to a thread on here.

It's dual band, MIMO and works using your PN login details. You can also separate the 2.4 and 5ghz SSID if you want to.

On a 17mb line I get about 18-19mb on ethernet (!) and about 12-16mb wifi. My wifi devices prefer it as well.

Best £33 I ever spent on a router.
