What is this on my network?

I have a plusnet Technicolor TG582n router. McAfee has flagged up something called TECHNICOLOR on my network. Its details are: Device type: Windows computer. IP Address 192.168.1.253. MAC Address A6-B1-E9-D1-BA-02. What is this please? And should I be worried about it?

Re: What is this on my network?

There will be a usb port on the side of the router, what you are seeing is the share the router creates to allow you to share stuff over the network. If you don't use it just ignore it.

Re: What is this on my network?

There are four Ethernet sockets, but no sign of a USB port.

OK it might just be the firmware is the same for all the tg582's then, just ignore it, you can't disable it.

Re: What is this on my network?

I think the content sharing is properly disabled in the 10.2.2.B firmware for ADSL (non-USB) models.

Re: What is this on my network?

Thanks. Do you think I should update the firmware? If so, how do I do this? I seem to be on software release 8.4.4.J.

Re: What is this on my network?

It's probably simpler just to ignore the 192.168.1.253 address.

Thanks. I'll do just that.
