What is the Max Upload speed I can expect from plusnet?

HI there all, I am asking this question since I am looking into running a dedicated server for Counter strike source and Maybe TF2.
This is the Data that steam have given as a guideline for player settings
Basically for internet connections (bits/second):
128k uplink = 4 players (2 players for srcds)
256k uplink = 7 players (4 players for srcds)
320k uplink = 9 players (6 players for srcds)
512k uplink = 14 players (9 players for srcds)
768k uplink = 21 players (14 players for srcds)
1024k uplink = 28 player (19 players for srcds - note 16 players is max for HL2DM)
1140k uplink = 32 players (max for HLDS) (21 players for CS:S)
1708k uplink = 32 players for CS:S (max)
Currently I am on a residential connection with 448kbps up.
I did raise a ticket for this and was directed to option 3 for business broadband which has double that speed.
I would be happy to go for that but is there any way at all, to up that speed?  My thinking is if you can get 4.5Mbits down a copper wire why not up?
Now I'm not sure how the gateways and routers are configured or if this is even possible, hence I hand this over to you guys.
I'd be happy if 1-1.5 Mbit was possible.  Very very happy.
Thanks for your time
Alex

Re: What is the Max Upload speed I can expect from plusnet?

The maximum upload speed you can get depends upon the status of your exchange and also what account type you are on.
If your exchange is not 21CN WBC enabled the best you can do is to either add it to your current product at a cost of £7.83 per month (see this page), or go for Business Option 3 which includes it.
If you are on an exchange that is 21CN WBC enabled you can ask for your upload speed to be uncapped which can in theory go up to over 1M but can vary depending upon your line.
There are various trials in progress at the moment which may give higher speeds if they are made generally available (and dependant on what BT do in your exchange).

If ADSL2+ is available to you then about 1.3mbps is generally available except on very long lines, subject to ISP/package restrictions.
(I get nearly 1.4mbps upstream on my ADSL2+ line)
With Annex M on ADSL2+ you can get up to 2.5mbps on SHORTER lines.
I believe BT may be trialling Annex M, buty generally only LLU providers such as Bethere can provide it reliably at present.

Thanks for the quick responses guys!!  According to sam knows its just the ADSL that is avail at the minute.  There is one LLU oper at my exchange but they offer the same speed anyone.  TBH I dont want to move from plusnet.  Here is what sam knows says about my exchange:
http://www.samknows.com/old/broadband/exchange.php?ecode=NSFRA
Think Im SOL with getting it faster that 862k.

Re: What is the Max Upload speed I can expect from plusnet?

Just to put a point across...
How far the UK is behind the rest of europe in terms of broadband infrastructure is disgusting.  I mean we had a government (an old one) that thought 2Mbit was enough for us all.  I bet they sat at home every night on a a line that had in excess of that.  I applaud plusnet for their continuing support and investment into their end of the bargin as an ISP.  BT need to get a shift on or we will be left behind.
Its got so bad that one village I saw in the news now has its own exchange completely separate from BT!!!  Lucky sods

Plusnet are testing Annex M ADSL2 + at this very moment:
people seing 1500 to 2000+ kbps Uplinks,
on normal PN lines, (nearer to the exchange)
and slightly shorter pings 21-23mSec

FTTC is also being trialled which gives you an upload sync rate of 10Mbs (again subject to length of phone line to the green street cabinet) - I'm getting 8.3Mbs actual throughput at the moment (and 19.5Mbs down!).
So there are a few technologies on the way but they are not mainstream yet.

is that interleaved or fast path? i got 16ms on fast path on 21cn adsl2 on a 50db atten pn line line and this post office interleaved 63db+ atten line i get a stable 30ms to bbc.co.uk.
if am honest i have had a smoother gaming exprince with this PO line on interleaved, i find the e30's seem to give wee spilt second lag spikes pretty regular say every 30 seconds. not massive or soul recking but enough that i noticed it on the 21cn connection
am currently trying to worm my way onto fttc to see what gaming is like

I've just checked the 21CN availability schedule and Fraserburgh isn't even listed for any of the new technologies (just like my exchange).

Re: What is the Max Upload speed I can expect from plusnet?

Yep Fraserburgh aint listed at all.  But 40 miles down the road in aberdeen they have already got it.  I know aberdeen makes more commercial sense but it just annoys me that the tech exists but BT doesn't see it as a good investment.  Yet.  It all comes down to one factor Return On Investment.

Re: What is the Max Upload speed I can expect from plusnet?

Fraserburgh currently has TalkTalk who generally provide ADSL2+ though I don't know their specific policy/implementation of Annex M.
It looks like sticking with PN you can double your upload at a price, but no further in the foreseeable future.

Re: What is the Max Upload speed I can expect from plusnet?

Incidentally, Max Premium not only increases your upload speed, but also gives you higher priority on the BT network and so may be appropriate for what you want to do.
