Websites taking too long to open

Hi all
Is there any reason why this is happening ? - it's across all browsers btw. And to add, I've only been with PN for about 24 hours. Yesterday everything was fine; today it's getting kinda frustrating waiting for pages to open, only to be presented with an error message (i.e. website is taking too long to respond etc..). Even the front page of Google is playing up.
I can't quite understand why a day later there's problems when in the first few hours of being online, everything was literally perfect.

Re: Websites taking too long to open

I noticed that earlier today. I switched gateway's and it disappeared, so probably g/w related.
If you are still having issues, then log in to the router, drop the ppp connection and re-connect.
EDIT:
I think it has something to do with this:-

Where the red stops is when I changed g/w's

Hairy Biker:  Don't assume that.  We've had no reported issues.
Might be worth checking your line for problems.

Re: Websites taking too long to open

Just an addendum, there should be no "gateway" that performs worse than any other.  If you are seeing that, there is an issue we need to fix.
Balancing across the platform is far far better (outside of maintenance periods) than it's been all year, so I/we really need to know if you are seeing demonstrable performance differences between gateways so we can investigate and fix them.

Hairybiker:  Something weird was going on with your line at that point.  We can see a large increase in the time it took for traffic to travel to you during that period.  No idea why yet.  Dave is having a dig.

I know

large increase in the time it took for traffic to travel to you during that period
that was why I changed gateways. Hey presto instant webpages again. Now if that isn't related to PURELY changing the g/w then I don't know what.
Given the option of phoning and spending xx min on the line - only to be told to reboot the router, (normal response of 1st line support  reboot everything)- or just dropping/starting the ppoe I know which I will choose  Grin
Since I was unable to open any NEW web pages, my radio was streaming normally and I was doing other things, I went for the quickest and TRIED AND TESTED way of doing it - change g/w.

Any why would my "line issues" be fixed by a ppoe drop?
Just done a speed test
<a href="http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2876510546"><img src="http://www.speedtest.net/result/2876510546.png" /></a>
Nothing noticeably wrong since I changed g/w's.

Re: Websites taking too long to open

I think you reconnected to the same gateway.

Re: Websites taking too long to open

Since I couldn't get a @gateway page to load, I don't know, I only know that after a drop/connect it was fine, so call it a bad connection but it had been up for a while previous to that.

Yeah, just confirmed.  You were connected to pc-ag08 and reconnected back to it.

Re: Websites taking too long to open

Well if it wasn't a g/w change than what a bad ppoe link, since I use Google/Open dns I wasn't the "normal" issue with a connection to your dns servers, that was happening a while ago.
I only noticed it because I wanted to open a link to a different page, then I couldn't get any current pages to reload, that was when I tried @gateway and got timed out, so I dropped the ppoe and got everything back.

Hi Kelly
How could you tell I reconnected ?  Shocked
And I think I know where the problem was. I was testing blocking certain websites (successful btw), and then deleted them. Before I did that, I 'checked' the box that said 'Use Address Based Filter'. That was when everything wasn't going right. So I unchecked it and normal service resumed.
Hopefully I think that's where the problem was.

We can see your connections and reconnections in our system.  Helps us work out if you have a connectivity problem and which bits of kit you are connected to on the network. Cheesy
