@MisterW Sorry to drag you into this, but I can't find the contact details @GlitterChick needs to ask why their pole appears to be the only one around which is not FF enabled. I know the option exists (or did), but I'm getting nowhere.

@jab1  I wouldn't completely dismiss @markhawkin  's comment as he might have a point. There seems to be an update every other day causing a now regular comment from the Wife "Something's wrong again !".

@jab1 I cant find it either! Knowing OR , they've probably removed the facility to check for incorrect data (computer's always right!)

Unless Plusnet will raise an ORDI, then its an email to Openreach CEO 

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

@Champnet I have an Apple iPhone12 and iPad Air (5th Gen) and use both on a regular basis. The only system - i.e. Apple  - updates are not that frequent, although app ones seem to be daily, but they only affect the app, not the whole system.

@jab1 Our iPads are quite old ,Air 2 OS 15.8.7, iPhones are quite newish SE 26.2.1.

@GlitterChick I would try contacting PN and asking them to raise an ORDI (Openreach Data Integrity enquiry) - if that fails, let us know.

I've got a number of Apple devices of various vintages.

The older devices (iOS 15 & 16) had a round of (I think certificate related) updates fairly recently.

The newer device (iOS 26.4) seems to be getting incremental updates very frequently as Apple play "whac-a-mole" with the things the last update broke.

A newer Plusnet Hub probably wouldn't be a bad thing to try.

The original problem is slow load. It's possible that for some reason the Plusnet connection has failed and requesting a page "re-establishes" the connection but that doesn't seem likely to me and DNS problems seem a good bet.

If possible comparison with a Windows laptop would be worth a try.

One suggestion on the Apple community that sounds promising is "closing ALL the tabs in Safari".

@markhawkin thank you for the suggestions. It could also be Apple breaking something again – I wish I’d never upgraded to iOS26 because it’s just been a continual stream of broken stuff. The visual glitches have annoyed me the most but they could well be behind this as well.

I have tried closing all Safari tabs, quitting and waiting a bit and then relaunching — and the issue helpfully immediately presented itself again with the first page I tried to load. The fingerprint suggestion I only have enabled for private browsing, so I’ve left that as it is. The private IP was on though so I’ve disabled that. Up until now that has been fine on private networks (but problematic on some public ones), so I’ll see if it makes any difference. Thank you for suggesting it.

@GlitterChick I'm not saying @markhawkin is wrong, but I am still leaning toward a DNS resolver problem based on previous comments. One way of checking this is to turn off the Wi-Fi on the iPad and see if  the issue is still present when you are using the mobile network DNS.

Thanks, that's worth knowing.

In the Reddit post it seems related to some sort of advert blocker.

Did/do the users have an advert blocker?

It could be that creating a profile in some way "resets" Safari in a helpful way without any advert blockers.

Yes, we all have Ghostery installed.

Simply disabling Ghostery via Safari settings wasn’t enough – I’d tried that.

And keeping Ghostery enabled now does still let Safari work fine. It seems Ghostery caused an issue but you have to create the new profile (and then delete it) to fix the problem. How on earth the people on Reddit worked it out as a solution I have no idea, it’s pretty out there. Ghostery was kept up-to-date as well, it was never out of date, but it seems that updating Ghostery by itself doesn’t fix the issue either.

It’s been 24 hours now and I haven’t had any complaints of slowness.
