I filled in the questionnaire and I will probably be barred from the draw on the grounds that I was totally negative and unhelpful

Plusnet Assist may not be suited for you Jim, but that doesn't mean that it's not useful for a large number of customers.
I'd be surprised if you saw a large increase in complaints given that we've been emailing customers about this for the last few weeks.

Your comments will be picked up and entered in the same way as everyone elses, I'm a bit disappointed you think we'd bar someone from a competition for giving negative feedback.

You can of course take the survey which enters you for the draw

Ah, now I see I'm not alone.  PN Assist then will be a disappointment for quite a few customers who do not use IE & it seemed so neat & handy. 
So PN, why was IE now a minority browser according to user surveys I've read, used in the first place?

Can I download it, install it and run it entirely in a VM just to be entered?

You don't need to download/install it at all - you can complete the user survey and still be entered.
