Very slow download speed

My broadband connection is much slower than I would expect.  I have PlusNet Broadband Your Way Option 1 (Monthly Contract) with included 2GB bandwidth.  Speed tests give the following:

My router stats are:
DSL Status:  UP
      DSL Modulation Mode: GDMT
      DSL Path Mode: INTERLEAVED
      Downstream Rate: 4512 Kbps
      Upstream Rate: 448 Kbps
      Downstream Margin: 9 db
      Upstream Margin: 24 db
      Downstream Line Attenuation: 43
      Upstream Line Attenuation: 25
      Downstream Transmit Power: 0
      Upstream Transmit Power: 0

and my Plusnet connection stats are:
Estimated line speed:
Not recorded (service activated before we introduced estimates).
Current line speed:
    4000
The master socket is BT (not Open Reach) and has 2 screw-on wire connections
which both look good.
There are no other sockets in the house.  I am using a filter which I
am assuming is good.  The filter make/model is YCL MF608B.
The router is a Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway.  The internet connection
to the computer is wireless.  Signal strength very good, speed 36 Mbps.
The router is left on permanently.
Would an Iplate help?  Any other suggestions of what the problem might be?
Thanks

The internet connection to the computer is wireless

Would it be possible to try plugging an ethernet cable in and running a speedtest then?

Re: Very slow download speed

OK. Ran a BT Speedtest with the following results:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 3224 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4512 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4000 Kbps
It might be possible to do an Ethernet connection, but unless the cable's quite long I'll
have to take my computer equipment downstairs.  It may take me a while to organise
this.  Do the BT results shed any light?

Re: Very slow download speed

And what does your plusnet profile say?
Login in the Members Centre page > click on"connectin settings" on the left side > click on " Highspeed Broadband"

Re: Very slow download speed

I ran the two other speed testers suggested:
first:
Speed Down  2971.74 Kbps ( 2.9 Mbps )
Speed Up 356.58 Kbps ( 0.3 Mbps )
second:
3673 kbps down,  380 kbps up.
There seems to be a very large variation between testers.  Maybe my actual
broadband link is OK but the effective speed (via the wireless) is slow?
Thanks for your help

Re: Very slow download speed

If you get a particularly slow result on the My broadband tester, then it may be just a "one off"  ... run it again a couple of minutes later. and try the others that Jim suggested.... to get a wider pic. !  Wink

Re: Very slow download speed

I would think that your assumption about wireless speed may be correct.
The fact that the Thinkbroadband Test is showing full speed is encouraging as in my opinion that one is more representative of actual browsing.
The other one gets totally messed up by my Security Package
