Can you give us the stats from your router
Synch speed
Noise Margin
Attenuation

Re: Very slow connection in first week

Post your router statistics as Oldjim requested, but this is an exceedingly low rate.  If you have not been resync'ing too often you may well have a faulty line.  Unless you have exceeded your monthly bandwidth allowance?!  Shocked

DSL Connection
Link Information
ive got these details from the thompson site,

Uptime: 0 days, 15:57:09

DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 64 / 128

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00

its the first time ive had broadband let alone wireless, im not sure how to reset 'sync speed' is this the 54Mbps?. ive turned the modem off and on each day to reset the connection and the bt web sits says no problems with my line, my line should be capable of about 2.5m ive got option 3 30 mb so havnt gone ova my allowance

If you are using a Speedtouch router go to here http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/dsl/dt/?ce=1&be=0&l0=1&l1=0 and copy the information requested please

Re: Very slow connection in first week

A sync rate of 128kb / 64kb is definitely indicative of a connection fault.
Please ensure you are connected to your test socket and if you are still showing the same speeds then raise this using our Broadband Faults Checker at the following link.
http://faults.plus.net/
If you are not sure what I mean by the test socket, there are some guidelines on the following page which should make this clear.

Re: Very slow connection in first week

I suggest you add that information to the fault report ticket after you have gone through the various steps related to a speed fault
It is obvious that there is a BT problem but I am very surprised about the high upstream attenuation.
Is that with the router plugged into the test socket

Re: Very slow connection in first week

Your local exchange is currently heavily contended    Close Fault Checker

  Exchange contention status: Red
The local telephone exchange, from where your broadband service is provided is currently experiencing very high levels of contention, with many broadband users. As a result of this, you may experience slower connection speeds during busy periods.
Please note that BT regularly upgrade the capacity of their telephone exchanges. We will monitor the BTs engineering schedules, please check back on a weekly basis for further updates.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
this s the resxult of the fault checker, but my broadband is slow at all times and very slow

Re: Very slow connection in first week

The fact that the exchange is red is of no relevance to your problem - that is related to achieved speeds not synch rates however the fault checker doresn't cover that

Speed Faults
Your exchange status will be checked to see if there are any contention problems, if anything is found then you won't be allowed to continue, so you'll need to call our Support Team or raise a ticket to talk about this.
http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/bbfaults/howto.shtml
I suggest raising another ticket or phoning or wait for a member of the comms team to pick it up here.

Re: Very slow connection in first week

Looks to me like there is some form of speed cap somewhere...
There is plenty of headroom on the downstream SNR ( 30.5 ) for it to sync faster but for some reason its stuck at 128.
Seen them stuck at 512 before but 128, thats really odd!!!

Re: Very slow connection in first week

My money's on BT capping the line for whatever reason.  That's something the PN CSC should query first.

Re: Very slow connection in first week

I think Jim's on the money here.
Phil Richardson has already identified a few of these on the forums - I wonder if I can wake up one of the comms chaps/chapesses and get Phil to take a look.
