Very low download speeds.

Hi there, since moving to Plusnet I've noticed that my download speeds have been very very low, during the daytime I'm lucky to be getting more than 1.5Mb/s
Here's my most recent speed test.

I'm on the Plusnet Pro package and although for gaming Plusnet been an absolute godsend, these speeds are much much lower than I was receiving with my previous ISP in regards to browsing/downloads.
My router is successfully syncing at 448 / 8,128

Re: Very low download speeds.

Using the Thomson router supplied by Plusnet, however it is the same model as the router I was using previously.
My MTU is at 1492 and my RWIN is 255552, these are the numbers I was using with my previous provider, Tiscali, and have remained unchanged.
I should note that between 00:00 and 08:00 when I use BitTorrent in order to take advantage of the unmetered access, download speed generally seems fine and is certainly much much higher than the numbers I'm getting during the evening.

Re: Very low download speeds.

The only IP profile I can find is 7150
I should also add that although my download speeds seem abnormally slow, my overall throughput seems to be phenomenal, I've been in 100+ player Wintergrasp battles in World of Warcraft at various times of day, with a latency rarely exceeding 90ms. So no issues there Cheesy
It's just a bit of an annoyance when I often have to wait on overly long amount of time between web pages while surfing.

Re: Very low download speeds.

That profile is matched on your account. Do you get any different results on any other speed testers - www.thinkbroadband.com or www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk ?

Re: Very low download speeds.

Could you try a wireshark capture if you haven't already, please? I need to check the profile on the line which I'll do in the morning but we should find out more from the wireshark dump. There's details on how to do the capture at http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/troubleshooting/wireshark.shtml - sorry about the slow speeds.

Re: Very low download speeds.

Morning,
That capture shows your web traffic in Gold, which is normal.
I'm concerned that your rWin seems rather high.  Can you try using a figure of 111200 with an MTU of 1430 on both your computer and router?

Re: Very low download speeds.

Checked the speed of my connection this morning and i'm getting results in the 6Mb region which is far more like it Smiley I guess it's just down to congestion at peak times or a hiccup somewhere. I'll give it another week or so and see if there's any pattern in regards to the slowdown.
Just out of curiosity, how do I go about changing the RWIN and MTU of the Thomson TG585 that Plusnet supplied?

Re: Very low download speeds.

You'll need to change the rWin using: http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp
I'm not entirely sure where you change the MTU on the router itself but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to let you know Smiley

Re: Very low download speeds.

You need to Telnet into the router and then use a CLI command - it has been covered before but as usual the search doesn't work
http://forum.zensupport.co.uk/thread/18173.aspx tells you how to do it
