VPN crashing my internet connection every time.

I have a work laptop with a VPN connection (ethernet or wireless). A week ago I connected at home and after uing it shut down the laptop and the internet connection was broken. I eventually fixed it by going back to a new install using the instructions sent with the router when you first join. I have a Thomson version 7. I spoke with Plusnet by phone and they said try filters, try master socket etc. etc. I got it back and it was stable all week and used it with my personal netbook, smart phone and desk top (all wireless no bother). I connected again at the weekend through my VPN and work laptop and it worked fine. I then closed my work laptop down and the internet system was discovered to have failed again. Got it back tonight by going through the new customer start up process again!. Spoke to work today and they have never heard of this problem (they have 2000 laptops on VPN) so suggested I try with the service provider. Having tried last week I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and can offer a solution? Thanks.

Does this math up with what you're seeing? Trying to establish if you're losing connection when you see that it stops working.

Hi, I don't think so to be honest. It was working fine over the week up to Sunday 24th when I accessed my VPN on the work laptop wirelessly around 10.30am for 30 odd mins I then logged off and left the house on business (not sure it was working or not) and then my wife discovered it was not working when she tried to log on at our home desktop by wireless about 09.00 on Monday 25th February. It remained broken until I returned on Tuesday evening and tried to fix it Tuesday night 26th February around 8pm that night. I managed to fix it and posted my query that you replied to. In the interim I'm not aware that it has worked and suspect that it hasn't so my timeline should be pretty accurate? Thanks.

UPDATE - 18.58. Just logged on using VPN (18.45 ish) using work laptop. Logged in fine and accessed e-mails etc. Tried switching off modem before powering down the laptop to see if that would help. Switched modem back on and internet disconnected 'authentication required'. Went back through Thomson v7 set up and internet working again fine

Do you have an alternative router you can try?

Some old firmware versions for the TG 585v7 did have problems with VPN, don't know if this is your problem but you could check if there's a newer firmware.
