VPN Connection Problem

Hi,
I have just had plusnet unlimited fibre connected at home and all works well for normal web browsing and email. However, for my work I use a Remote Access VPN Client. I use use this when I travel and it works all over the world, but not now?! I get an error message reporting Login Failure Due to: Remote Host not responding. A call to my company's helpdesk didn't resolve this ...
Any suggestions would be warmly appreciated.
Thanks ...

Re: VPN Connection Problem

is it a cisco vpn?
if so try disabling the firewall on your router. and enable passthrough etc.

What is your Plusnet Firewall setting? (Login required).

Re: VPN Connection Problem

Hi andy and welcome to the forums,
If its an IPSec VPN then you may well need to implement the fix here http://npr.me.uk/vpnissue.html

Re: VPN Connection Problem

Thanks MisterW, Jaggies and Daniel M,
I should have said that I have a Nortel VPN Client V07_01.330, which is quite long in the tooth now.
Also, I am running the standard plusnet router Technicolor 582.
I will try out your suggestions when I get home ...
Appreciate the responses, Andy

Re: VPN Connection Problem

I'm fairly sure that the Nortel Client is IPSec.

Re: VPN Connection Problem

MisterW - Many thanks for the fix - it worked!!!  Smiley
I used the Telnet method via the command prompt and as a non-techie, I'm feeling pretty chuffed.
By the way, the Plusnet Firewall was set to standard ... I didn't change that.
Best Regards, Andy

Re: VPN Connection Problem

Hello,
I am having the same issue as posted by andyharpham. I cannot connect to my work VPN at home. I get the error message "Login Failure Due to: Remote Host not responding"
I have a plusnet Technicolor TG582n router.
I am using Nortel VPN Client V07_01.251
I have tried disabling my Firewall - didn't work
I have tried modifying the config file as described in http://npr.me.uk/vpnissue.html ; - didn't work
I have contacted Plusnet - no use
I don't have access to Command Prompt - work laptop
My IT dept. have told me that ports TCP 10000/10001 and UDP 500 need to be open. So, I have tried to do this on the Port Forwarding function in the Technicolor admin page. Again, no luck. But, I am not 100% confident I did it correctly.
I am at my wits end - please please can anyone help?

Re: VPN Connection Problem

Is your PC on a static LAN IP ?
IMO these routers perform better when the PC's network adapter is configured to automatically get it's IP address.
Have you tried disabling Plusnets firewall, not just setting it to low?
