Using TG585 v.7 in bridge mode

Later this week I am upgrading from PN Broadband Value to Essentials Fibre. Reading the Forum I am expecting (call me Jonah!) poor Wifi signal from the TG582 N. As I shall have a redundant TG585 v.7 from my existing system, I am wondering if I can use it in the 'Bridge' mode and if so how do I go about it please. If this is not possible is it worth buying a Wifi extender (e.g http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-WPA281-Wireless-Powerline-Extender/dp/B0067GS0YO/ref=sr_1_6?s=com... or should I go for a better Router? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Re: Using TG585 v.7 in bridge mode

Hey there,
I don't believe you can put it in bridged mode, but you don't really need to, to be honest.
The way I have mine set up is as follows:
Modem -> FTTC Router (Wifi Disabled) -> TG585v8 with the IP Address changed and the gateway set to the IP of the FTTC router,
It is also important to make sure that you've only got DHCP enabled on just one of the routers.
If you need any help further than this, let me know
Cheers,
Matt

Re: Using TG585 v.7 in bridge mode

Thank you Matt - Am I correct in understanding  that the TG585 plugs into the new Tg582 (in one of the 3 spare ports) and then what should the IP address be changed to and which router should have DCHP disabled?
I appreciate your help.  Regards  Robstreats

Re: Using TG585 v.7 in bridge mode

Hey,
That's right, yeah. Ethernet the two routers together,
Disable DHCP on your 585, I've got mine setup like this:

But, your 10.0.0.254 will be 192.168.1.254 - You can change this to something like, 192.168.1.253 (as your 582 will be .254)
You can find that by going to-> Home > Home Network > Interfaces > LocalNetwork -> Configure
Hope this helps!

Thanks Matt, I'll give it a go as soon as my upgrade settles down - I'm told this can take 48 hours or so. Regards    Robstreats

253 might be a bad idea Matt, that's the default Content sharing IP for the TG582n, unless of course you disable content sharing. I'd suggest 192.168.1.63 which is outside the default DHCP range of the 582.
