Using SSL when reading mail?

I'm trying to log into mail.plus.net from a network that blocks the standard POP port 110. I know the secure POP port (995) will work, and this would be pretty easy to set up in Thunderbird.... but it seems like I can't log into PN's mail server securely! Every time I tick "SSL" in Thunderbird (which changes the port to 995) I time out trying to login... as soon as I'm back to un-encrypted it works again.
Contacted Support who told me it should work. Question: have any of you managed to get this working?
Many thanks, Mike

Re: Using SSL when reading mail?

Hi Mike,
our mail collection servers do *not* support SSL. Apologies for the misinformation. I've had a word with the agent who handled your ticket request.
This was suggested as an improvement by the Usergroup here.

Re: Using SSL when reading mail?

Harumph. Thanks for the reply and link, Bob. Bit surprised a big ISP like PN doesn't allow secure logins yet.... but I appreciate you clarifying this for me. Cheers!
