Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

My exchange always used to have a RFS date for 21CN/WBC, but now it doesn't...
http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/?exchange=Preston%20(dorset)&exact=2002
"BT have advised that no current planned date for WBC on 21CN exists"
However SamKnows seems to "know" more..
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/STPRSTN
21CN WBC status: RFS date set : 30/03/2010
21CN PSTN switchover target: Q3 2009
So who is right?  If Plusnet checker is correct, why has my exchange lost it's WBC RFS date?  (it used to show the same data as SamKnows).

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

Looks like the same thing's happened to our exchange of Warmwell which, funnily enough, is practically next-door to Preston Smiley

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

At least your VirtualPaths are green.  Ours has been red for all of 2009 so far.
I suppose with BT being the only supplier, there is no competition, and thefore BT Wholesale are allowed to deliver a shit service for the same money that people in competitive areas pay for a good service..
Digitial Divide....  I suspect that's also why we lost our WBC dates, no competition, why bother spending money down there...

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

The PN exchange checker was updated with the latest information from BT very recently.
See also http://community.plus.net/21cn-exchange-availability/ (you need to look up your exchange code from the exchange checker before searching that list).

I've a mate who lives at Sutton Poyntz. He gets a solid 8192kbps connection but poor throughput so I know what you mean Sad
The Warmwell exchange is actually in Owermoigne and is literally miles away from most of the population centres it serves so one ever so cynical reason for the lack of pressure on it's VPs is that people at places like Crossways can only get 512kbps (or less) connections. You just can't win Smiley

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

I suppose with nobody being able to steal all the bandwidth, everyone gets a fairer (but much slower) share of the contention pot...
That WBC list only covers a small number of the countries exchanges.  Has BT drastically cut back it's WBC plans, and not bothered telling anyone?

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

Have you read the list correctly?
It contains 851 exchanges, 661 of which are already enabled. Also to note is that it only includes exchanges with planned dates up to 31/03/2010, previous information had dates well beyond that. I'm guessing that predicting dates too far ahead was proving to be too inaccurate.

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

I believe I am reading it correctly.  My exchange STPRSTN  USED to have a RFS date of 30/03/2010, my exchange is no longer listed as having a date, nor does it appear on that list, although there ARE plenty of exchanges are are still listed as 31/03/2010.  I can only assume BT has dropped my exchange from the WBC..  (I was hoping that the WBC would fix the Virtual Paths problems, which plague this, and many other semi-rural exchanges)

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

I think it far more likely that the date has been pushed back beyond 31/03/2010 and that that is why it is not listed.
If you look on Sam Knows the date that he shows was set by BT on 09/11/2008 - 21CN implementation hasn't gone that smoothly (I still wouldn't touch it with a barge pole given that I have a stable 8M line) so I'm not surprised that the dates for a lot of exchanges have been pushed back.

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

Then shouldn't BT and/or Plusnet be telling people, rather than hoping they don't accidentally find out?  Lips_are_sealed  Lips_are_sealed

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

Yep, BT have 'realigned' some exchange dates.
If your exchange date is now beyond next March it won't show in our list, as those dates are still subject to change.
Regards not telling people, this would be unrealistic given how many times dates have changed, and may still do, so the best we can do at the moment is update the exchange checker.

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

Hmm, I might need to snitch that list to update Usertools with it...

Re: Usertools Exchange Checker broken?

I thought I saw a post somewhere that said Usertools had been updated with that list.
