Usenet SPAM

Pretty disappointed with the usenet platform now.
I know it recently change to a new owner/servers, thats when it went down hill. Wouldn't it be a good idea if they filtered out some of the spam?
On the few groups I subscribed too there SPAM/HAM ratio is very high now

We've raised the spam issue with Giganews to see if there's anything that can be done but I'd be surprised if they haven't had similar queries from their other resellers in the past.
In the meantime you might want to explore the possibility of using a program like Hamster or NewsProxy to filter out messages posted from Google Groups.

Newsproxy makes all the difference - just filtering out the postings originating from google and it looks 99% clean again.
