Usage cap download speed 0.01Mbps

I have gone over the 40gb usage cap on Fibre and I am now being capped to 0.01 Mbps and the same between midnight and 08:00
Technical; support say that although it will be capped at 256kb/s it is up to 256kb/s.
Is 256 kb/s 0.256 Mbps

Re: Usage cap download speed 0.01Mbps

when I hit the cap it was 256kbps up and down - I know because I ran a speed check to test and the limit is applied 24/7

Re: Usage cap download speed 0.01Mbps

Applying the  cap overnight does seem unfair as it is advertised as Unlimited overnight usage

Re: Usage cap download speed 0.01Mbps

It might have always been that way but that's not what it says when you sign up.
My broadband is now virtually unusable now at 0.01 Mbps which is I believe 10kb/s

Hi Ant1,
Welcome to the forums.  Yes the above is correct and the "up to" caveat is the same caveat apparently applied to all speed quotes, however, I'd dispute that it applies here.

If you reach or go over your spending limit, your speed will be rate limited to 256kb/s and all p2p, usenet and FTP traffic will be blocked until your next billing date.

I'd expect your synch speed should be as fast as the line will support, albeit your data speed will be limited.  Can you please post your router stats?  I suspect something else is wrong here.

Overnight usage (between midnight and 8am) does not count towards your monthly usage allowance

With the above consideration, one would not expect the restriction to apply 00-08, indeed I gave been told by support that is correct, but not found it to be the case.

However a BT speed test further diagnostics may help

If it works for him.
Paying the £4 a month extra ( if on ME3) would also help him as he would get unlimited)
