Upload speed from 0.4 to 0.6Mb/s after cap being removed???

Hello, I have been a week with Plusnet so far (moved from Virgin) and first thing I have noticed is well known 0.444MB/s cap on upload speed. So called costomer service last thursday and asked to uncap. I have been told I could go for full 1.3 Mb/s upload speed but at the cost of download speed (???).  Ok- I said as mostly used broadband for Skype videocalling (upload speed quite important here ). I must say Skype with 0.444MB/s cap is basically unusable for videocalling. After a day or two upload speed has been raised to.....0.6Mb/s!!! I called customer service today and been told that is all I can get!!! I must say I never had this kind of issue with Virgin ( and we all know they are not the best on phone line based services) upload speed always 1-1.2Mb/s.  Skype videocalling still rubbish.
Can some advice please?

In about 5 years time we may manage to educate the CSC staff and stop them spouting such rubbish! Angry

Thanks for reply Jelv, I take it I suppose to get the max speeds available both down and upload without cutting any of them?

Yes. We'll be able to advise better once you've posted the stats the others have requested.

Re: Upload speed from 0.4 to 0.6Mb/s after cap being removed???

It is indeed
Your upstream noise margin seems to have been set at 12dB by the automatic system
I have no idea why and it will probably need line reset to fix it which can only be done by the Plusnet staff

That indicates you are on ADSL1, although ADSL2 might be better.

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 30.0 / 48.0

Upstream line attenuation does seem to be a bit high compared with the downstream attenuation, usually the upstream attenuation is about half, or slightly more than half of the down attenuation.

Re: Upload speed from 0.4 to 0.6Mb/s after cap being removed???

Hi there.
I'm just looking into this now.
The line is uncapped and the noise margin target for your upstream is set to 6db so something does seem to be dragging that up a bit.
Is the router going into the Master socket or ideally the test socket?

Re: Upload speed from 0.4 to 0.6Mb/s after cap being removed???

For broadband to work properly you need to have a decent quality of phone line, so it's a good idea to have a phone available if only to dial 17070 and use the quiet line test (option 2) to check there is no background noise on the line. If broadband ever goes down the first thing you should check is if the phone is still working.
