Upload from outwith Plus Net network?

I am going to be away from home but still have a requirement to upload files to my Plus Net webspace. I can connect and read using FTP on a different broadband connection but I cannot upload. Is this doable or is it just not an option? I may need to find another provider if this is not an option.

Re: Upload from outwith Plus Net network?

As long as you are on a paid account you should be able to use the ftp.plus.net address and upload to your webspace from any location. Unfortunately you can't upload to ccgi.plus.net from outside the Plusnet network.

Can you telnet to ccgi from outside the PN network?

TBH, I'm not sure. It's possible that you can telnet to it from outside the network but I'm pretty sure it won't authenticate you.

Re: Upload from outwith Plus Net network?

Was just wondering if you could ftp stuff to homepages, then use something like wget to grab a copy onto your ccgi box.
Just thinking laterally - I suspect its not an option though.

No route to host from outside the PN network for me.

I'm paying £15 a month for Plus net. Does this constitute a paid account? I can connect using ftp.plus.net and browse the directories but it appears to be read only. I cannot upload any images for example.

Re: Upload from outwith Plus Net network?

Are you having any issues from your PN connection when trying the same?
Are you uploading files inside the htdocs folder?
I could try uploading a small file from here to test if you would like?

Re: Upload from outwith Plus Net network?

No issues when I try in on the PN network from home - it works fine. I am trying to upload to a sub folder inside htdocs.
The error message I get just now from work is '550 Security server forbids that action on this file' using ftp from the cmd prompt. I can log in and browse but I get this as soon as I try to send a sample .jpg file. Is this something on my corporate network on PN network?

Re: Upload from outwith Plus Net network?

When away, are you on a company network using Windows Small Business Server 2003 with ISA Server 2004 firewall?
If so, by default it sets FTP connections as read-only so you can see files but not upload/change any. You would need to contact the admin of the server to configure ISA to allow uploading.
Any connection to the ccgi server (telnet/ssh/ftp) is only allowed from a PN IP.
Could you perhaps remote into your PC at home and upload from there?

That sounds like the issue then. If it is a work server issue then I will try and find another connection when I am away or remote onto my home pc and work that way. Thanks for the info, at least I know it isn't a PN issue then. Smiley
