Have disconnected and reconected with no change. The PN exchange check for my
connection still shows my line speed at 7.15mb

Tks for getting back Matt no change in download speed still around 68xx on both wifi on laptop (i3)
and wired on desktop
Exchanger checker does now show current line speed at 18000 estimated line speed 7mb
Should I consider a REBOOT tomorrow at "best times" can also change router do have a
BT Homehub 2.0 which I have used as backup again tks for your help...Bill

That is odd. Definitely matching at 18000 on our side and across the BT exchange. Yes it would be worth a reboot (though disconnect before powering down) but I didn't think it'd be necessary to be honest.

Tks Matt will try later one thought my connection is not banded as my previous connection on asdl1
was ALWAYS 7616 ?

It will be safe for you to do a disconnect/reconnect via the router interface - try that again following Matt's last tweak.

Waited for an hour and reconnected download speed are now:-
Wired using linux on desktop 15515  /374
wifi on laptop W7 12286 / 374
Whatever you did seems to have solved it Thanks Matt also all you guys for
your tips/help
