Re: Upgrade Firmware

Hi BB,
As Jim suspects, if you are using wireless to do this it won't work, you have to do it wired.

Re: Upgrade Firmware

You beat me to it  Smiley
For OP's benefit you lose your wireless connection during update hence need for ethernet connection. I've done a few Thomson upgrades and these have never failed using cable but first one I ever tried failed as I didn't know not to try wirelessly.

Re: Upgrade Firmware

I tried with ethernet cable. It got to 20% then it failed on every occasion. Is it worth the hassle, will it make a difference?

Re: Upgrade Firmware

Disable any firewall software and anti-virus software on your PC and try again.

Re: Upgrade Firmware

In my experience it can be rather hit and miss updating the thomsons, I could only get mine to update from a laptop and it had the same av/firewall & settings as the desktop pc that refused to upgrade the router

Re: Upgrade Firmware

I've upgraded v7 & v8 using XPPro T41 laptop but always remove pcmcia wireless card before starting just in case there's a conflict with cable.

Re: Upgrade Firmware

Thanks for the advice, but got nowhere. I notice my Interner Protocol settings have changed from obtain address automatically , to a specific set of numbers. Is it ok to reset this. Not sure if my upgrade attempts have caused this ?Huh

Re: Upgrade Firmware

You almost certainly want to switch the settings back to 'Automatic'.
If you're using a computer that normally connects by wireless then you probably need to disable this while connecting to the router by ethernet cable.

Re: Upgrade Firmware

If I ever manage to update the firmware , will it make things more secure and faster. Is it compulsory?

Re: Upgrade Firmware

HI BB.
The upgrade is to fix issues with wireless connectivity. If you are not having issues then you don't need to upgrade it.
