could some kind benevolent user please tell me why plus net feel the need to send me duplicate emails each month to let me know they have taken their money.

The easy way to stop this happening is to set your contact e-mail to be postmaster@username.plus.com in your account settings on this page (login required).
Plusnet will send you all communication to the address given in your account details AND to the postmaster@username.plus.com address - it's still in their Ts &Cs that you monitor the postmaster address on your account. Changing your contact address to postmaster@username.plus.com will result in only one mail being sent!
