Two Routers packed up.

I've   always used my own router with  Plusnet , as Does my daughter, well she had  my only spare.
2 days Ago  her  linksys  died ... So I lent ner mine  as I do tend to do most of my Webbing  at work ..  ) oops)  ;D..
Last night  that one  ( a belkin)  died too...  it  is a bit old and has had odd probs in the past .
So no neither of us have a working router  ::).,  luckily I  can get on here from work , and at a push as its a bit pricey  on via my Phone  Cry
How good are those  routers  normally supplied by  PlusNET  , and is it possilbe to get  then from Plusnet after  joining ?.
As  no routers  tends to affect ones   internet  experience   Grin

Re: Two Routers packed up.

I could be wrong, but as the router remains property of PN I believe it would be their responsibility to provide you with a free replacement should the router have had a technical fault and not caused by 3rd party.
If you broke it then the costs could be your own.
I would highly recommend you give them a quick call or as Jess tells me;
Your Question: Router defect

Re: Two Routers packed up.

Sounds like the OP has always used his own so doesn't have a PN one, and wants to know if he can get one sent out since he didn't choose to get one on sign up

Re: Two Routers packed up.

I'm sure the OP can get a PlusNet router - isn't it £5.99 delivery and the cost of it written into the contact?

I think you are, as the PlusNet equipment isn't leased - it is your property.
That's the difference between Sky and Virgin Media.
PlusNet have no obligation to replace it, but I'm guessing they will if it's under warranty.

@RickK Usually it's me who doesn't read it properly 😛
I reckon if it was faulty under warranty PN would replace it and recoup whatever losses they have on it from the manufacturer, under the warranty, rather than tell the customer to report it to Thompson etc

Hi ceedy,
Welcome to the Community Forum!
Sorry to hear you've had the bad luck of two routers giving up the ghost in such a short space of time. We have been notified of equipment blowing with the recent electrical storms so maybe this could have been the cause of either one or both of them dying?
The router we provide as standard is a Thomson 582N which is a pretty standard wireless router which a few different providers offer with their services. We would normally only offer these as part of the sign up process and would ask for the P&P to be covered on them but given the situation I can arrange for one to be sent out on your account for free if you like?
If your daughter is also with Plusnet then I can't see why we wouldn't do the same for her as well but you'll need to have her raise a ticket on her account outlining that she wishes to take a router with us if possible, once she's done that if you can drop me a PM with her username I should be able to arrange for this to be sent out as long as you're down as an authorised user on her account.
Let me know how you wish to proceed and I can get this arranged for you  Wink

@RickK & Alex - The router we provide belongs to the customer so no need to return them and we cover them with a 12 month warranty  Wink

Re: Two Routers packed up.

I would never recommend any routers from either belkin (the one I had was affected with several issues and finally gave up the ghost after around 2 years) or linksys (the E1000 I purchased to replace a netgear router that is still going strong after a little rest since it did have a few glitches with the wi-fi failed after three months of usage and I decided not to bother to get it fixed since it was a complete pain to even attempt).
Netgear routers are pretty good, and decent value for money but you might be better off asking on a specialist computer hardware forum like the one on the overclockersUK site for better advice.

Re: Two Routers packed up.

The TG582n isn't bad for a fairly in-expensive modem/router. I you don't want any very fancy clever setup stuff for your home network or have significant wireless issues in your locale, then you should have no problem with it.
Otherwise, it can be a bit of a pig to customise and setup some specialist aspects as it requires the use of telnet, but these is a fair bit of info around here if you need that. It has a broadcom chipset which is a decent advantage for ADSL(2+).
