Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

Hi folks. I’m trying to connect my MyEnergi Hub to broadband via Ethernet. I’ve been told by MyEnergi that port 87 needs to be open. I’ve looked through support and can’t see how to do this please help!

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

@MAXDRAXX   it says nothing about that in the instructions - https://www.myenergi.com/wiki/hub/hub_overview/

Have you updated to the latest firmware?

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

 been told by MyEnergi that port 87 needs to be open

@MAXDRAXX it only needs to be open for outgoing connections. All ports are open for outgoing connections

Hallo! No haven’t upgraded to latest firmware. I thought I’d need a working internet connection for that?

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

Hi! I was just emailed this by MyEnergi support:
“ if the server light is still red, please unplug everything from the router and leave only the hub plugged in - if this still hasn't changed after 5 mins, get in touch with your ISP to ensure your firewall settings are set appropriately: Port 87 needs to be Open with Protocol UDP open within this port”

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

Total 'male cow excrement', I've never met an isp or router that blocks any outgoing traffic.

You might look at this thread and check that an nslookup will resolve the server name director.myenergi.online

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

Sorry. I’m totally new to all this. Which thread? And is this something I resolve with the Hub or the Plusnet connection?

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

@MisterW

I can confirm connection should be possible.

Using  a Windows  power shell command Test-NetConnection

PS C:\> Test-NetConnection director.myenergi.online -Port 87

ComputerName : director.myenergi.online
RemoteAddress : 185.106.134.196
RemotePort : 87
InterfaceAlias : WiFi
SourceAddress : 192.168.10.100
TcpTestSucceeded : True

I am currently using a Hub two

HTH

@MAXDRAXX

Which Hub are you using?

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

Thanks @Dan_the_Van  , that's what I would expect. I couldn't do that at the moment I'm posting from my tablet.

@MAXDRAXX have you tried the firmware update procedure https://support.myenergi.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360020110577-Updating-the-firmware-on-your-hub

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

@MisterW

Think it worked I have also tested 185.106.134.196 UDP port 87 using https://www.ipvoid.com/udp-port-scan/

Screenshot 2023-09-06 195351.png

As a sanity check UDP port 80 showed as closed

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

I’m not entirely sure how to tell what model of hub it is. How would I find out please?

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

I’ve tried following the instructions for a firmware update but if the server light is red, will it be able to proceed? I can’t tell if it’s updated or not.

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

This https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/router-information/ will help identify what hub you have, but it doesn't really matter , none of the plusnet hubs will block port 87!

Do you have Internet access fro m other devices connected to the plusnet hub ?

Just a thought , you're not connecting the energyi hub to the red wan port on the plusnet hub are you ?

It needs to be connected to a yellow lan port

Re: Trying to connect MyEnergi Hub requiring port 87 to be open

Thanks for that. It looks like I could try plugging the hub into a friend’s router and trying the updates?
