The appearance of the graph can probably be explained if you take into account how the v3 reports the noise margin. By default, it reports the minimum margin out of all the tones in use. So if you have say 300 tones in use (out of the 512 available with ADSL2+), and most have a margin around 5 or 6, but a single tone has a margin around 1, then the margin would be reported as 1.

Quote from: Chris Could you complete the Broadband Fault Checker at http://faults.plus.net and I'll get that picked up for you once complete?
@'myredhotcar' - did you ever get a phone handset so that you could complete the Broadband Fault Checker ?

Indeed, it appears to be running like a dream. My v3 also works at this address so I am fairly sure I can rule out hardware faults at my end. Saying that my v3 is getting on so I don't mind upgrading it too much. I can probably sell it and recoup some of the cost of my DG834GT which should be here tomorrow. The vendor who sold me a v5 as a v4 is refunding me including postage and looking at the sellers other listings I am sure it was a genuine mistake.
@ Purleigh
I have just managed to complete the fault checker and the line was silent on the 17070 (option 2) BT test. I was expecting a barrage of clicks, pops and disembodied swearwords. I don't know what this means in terms of my line problem but I guess it might make it less simple.
Interestingly, the fault checker told me my line had disconnected at least twice a day for the last 10 days (may have been 7, can't remember exactly). Within a short period of completing the test the router went haywire and totally reset itself. When it reconnected I noticed my ping times dropped drastically from around 45ms to 13.3ms:

I notice there is a DGTeam firmware available but I want to leave it running for a while until I start fiddling too much.
RouterStats is logging as I type so I will have some logs to post later. Talking of which, the 'capture each page' function hasn't worked as yet. I wonder if I am doing something wrong? If anyone has any ideas let me know, but bear in mind I am running the program in WINE if relevant. I have included a shot of the settings tab.
Cheers all
edit I have solved the erroneous time problem by switching NTP servers.

I don't remember seeing a 'time' problem, but many Netgear routers from the era of the GT have a problem with the date - but only when it is November and December !
If you do mean 'time' of day, then you could point 'ntp' at 'ntp.plus.net'

It was showing the date as 2000 and the time was also incorrect. Sorted it by using the MS NTP server!
Very pleased with this box so far, if I believed in fate I would be tempting it but glad I switched!

Perhaps you could get some better graphs with error rates from dslstats.
If the problem is no more, you might need to request the target snr margin reset to 6 rather than waiting for it to go down from 15 automatically, which could take weeks.

I thought I was ADSL1, my fastest real world speed so far was just shy of 600kbps. This was a very well seeded Linux distro and I tested overnight to rule out throttling. Tried to find out how to check in the interface but no joy. I tried via telnet and here are the results (which I assume mean I am already ADSL2?):

Should I therefore request an SNR reset? If so I will wait until Monday just in case there are problems... I could do with as steady a connection as possible over the weekend!

You are also on capped upstream, which will have an impact on performance, and you should request that it is uncapped.

I will put in the request at the beginning of the week; loathe to do it right now in case things go haywire again
Things still seem pretty stable.

On Friday, I noticed the cover was badly scuffed (something dark coloured has been bashed against it) and very very loose, so I spoke to my landlord and explained the problems I have been having. My worry is that if BT send out an engineer I will be billed for the damage. Our wheelie bins went out today; mine are at the front of the property so do not get pulled along the narrow path past this cover. The person who lives below me keeps his wheelie bins around the back and therefore wheels the bins to and fro once a week past the grey BT cover. After hearing the neighbour dragging the bins along the path I went out to check the cover and it is literally hanging off the wall. It has clearly been bashed today.
Could this affect the line or is the cover largely cosmetic? If BT were to be called out to investigate a line fault would I be liable (meaning potential small claims court case)? I did notice that the cover was very poorly fitted. It is held by two screws (both pulled out) which are tiny.
Edit: Also, as suggested by ejs I have configured DSLstats so if any grabs from that are required let me know which and I will upload them
