Transfer from John Lewis B/B

I have transferred from John Lewis Broadband to Plusnet. All seems to be working okay but the settings in my email client account (Thunderbird) still has the waitrose details, ie  j………..n@waitrose.com-smtp. mail.waitrose.com(default). Port 25. Default 587.

Should these details  be changed to the webmail account that I have set up to replace the waitrose email? As I say, on the whole the emails are getting through from Thunderbird, except for anything sent to gmail which get rejected. Thanks.

Re: Transfer from John Lewis B/B

@kjello If the JL account (and associated email address) is now closed, I am a little amazed you can set up a PN one - these were discontinued for new customers last year.

@kjello

There is a FAQ which might be helpful to you https://www.plus.net/john-lewis/faqs/

See "Can I keep my John Lewis email address?"

Re: Transfer from John Lewis B/B

Hey there @kjello and welcome to the forum. Is the email now a plusnet email or not? Did you choose a 3rd party email address? We shouldn't be setting up new email accounts on Plusnet like @jab1 said

Re: Transfer from John Lewis B/B

@kjello - It looks like your Waitrose Email account is separate to the account which you had with John Lewis for your broadband, so receiving mail via Thunderbird will remain unaffected by the transfer to Plusnet. If you find that you can't send mail, then you could use webmail at https://webmail.johnlewisbroadband.com/

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Transfer from John Lewis B/B

@jab1 it is possible to create them from our side and I think they still have the option on the member centre, but I haven't been on the email settings on the member centre in a while.

Re: Transfer from John Lewis B/B

That is strange, as Plusnet have stated that they are not providing email facilities for new customers? 😕

Re: Transfer from John Lewis B/B

They'd (agents) have to be naughty to be able to do it, but technically they can. Mr. @Gandalf has confirmed they are unable to do it on Member Centre.

Fair enough @willcutforth  - although I doubt few of your first-line agents would have the knowledge/experience?

Re: Transfer from John Lewis B/B

Yeah they don't really teach it in training these days, so if you get someone who has joined in the past year I would doubt they would know how to do it.

Re: Transfer from John Lewis B/B

John Lewis will be discontinuing broadband and email services and has told its customers to get new providers. Since Plusnet have been carrying out the functions all along for JL it was advised we transfer to Plusnet for B/B but obviously not for email since Plusnet discontinued email to new customers last year. So I have now transferred to PN for B/B and my email provider is a third party, and the question still stands.

I have been told on another forum that my Thunderbird smtp settings will have to be changed in order to link TB to the third party provider, so I will look into this with that provider.

Does anyone know if a date has been set yet on which JL will pull the plug? Thanks.

Re: Transfer from John Lewis B/B

..... also will I have to change any other  settings for functions, eg browser connection, that were formerly performed by the JL software (and now by PN) or are these now being performed by the new router?  Thanks

Re: Transfer from John Lewis B/B

@kjello If you have transferred to PN for BB & phone, presumably you have changed your broadband credentials to the PN account name and password you set up on registering? - provided of course the transfer has been confirmed.

Obviously, if your email service is with a third party, your email settings will have to to amended to those advised by your new provider.

There are, as I understand it, FAQ's on the JL site which should answer some questions.

You should not have to change any other settings, unless you are still using the JL Hub, in which case you just need to change the username and password to your new PN ones - everything else will continue as normal.
