We signed up recently after escaping from Virgin Media's ADSL sale to Talktalk. We are fairly rural but our connection shows a line speed of about 7Mb and performed acceptably under Virgin, a few web tests currently show around 6Mb throughput, all good there. The trouble relates to what appears to be aggressive traffic management, when on Virgin we were able to easily stream Netflix at any time. Since we have moved it seems to be completely blocked? I have also noticed that some sites load quickly and fine whereas others do not load at all. It's pretty frustrating, why is this happening?

Hi and welcome to Plusnet and the forums,
I'd expect you to be able to use streaming (and web traffic) at those speeds all the time without issue.
Do you find the problems to be time specific? Do you have examples of the sites that you have problems with and those that work? That could be a DNS issue. What equipment are you using?

Thanks for the reply. The problem has so far not seemed to be related to the time. I have tried using both the normal DNS servers and Google DNS servers to no real difference to this particular issue. What I have noticed is that a basic web proxy will rectify the issue - as in a page that was struggling / hanging is then fine when I use something like kproxy.com. The router we are using is getting abit old in the tooth, I do have another one that I can try.

Thanks plusnettony, I went back and had a good look at the router and I think it might have been dns related, after again reverting to automatic DNS and factory resetting the router, something appears to have sorted it from that, thanks for the help and for looking into it.
