Traffic Management: Usage penalty

Today I got my 13gb email warning
"Light restrictions will now apply to your connection speeds until the end of the current billing month."
The effect of these restrictions can be seen in the speed test results below

We are unable to use the internet satisfactorily this evening. Time to move on I think.
Edit: changed incorrect speed result

Re: Traffic Management: Usage penalty

If you get 5.2Mbps while being penalised then you're getting better value for money than I do. The maximum I get at ANY time of the month is 1.7Mbps.

Re: Traffic Management: Usage penalty

I think you are been throttled at a lower rate than you should be, according to this it should be 2meg http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/archive/bb_premier1.shtml and you are getting 1.
There was another thread on this somewhere, might be worth raising a ticket.

Re: Traffic Management: Usage penalty

I would be delighted if i could get that as a steady speed. welcome to my world, even if it's just for a short visit. Remember, you have the luxury of being able to upgrade to get a higher usage allowance and regain your previous speeds.

I hadn't seen that one. I recall an earlier one on the same subject. I'll have look for it tomorrow.
It appears this is not a new problem

Yes, it should be as those restrictions only apply to peak hours.
It's basically down to two things.  We apply a 1Mbps restriction on Mondays whilst we're under a network capacity situation of Amber.  I belive that it reverts to 2Mbps from Wednesday to Sunday, when we have slightly lower lovels of traffic.

Re: Traffic Management: Usage penalty

In the level 1 management info it says up to 2Mbps.
I don't think it's right that at 66% of my monthly usage allowance I get pegged back to 1Mbps

Re: Traffic Management: Usage penalty

It's been like that for literally years.
Looking at your usage Santiago, you'd almost definitely be better off using Option 3 as those sort of restrictions don't apply and I'd expect you to remain within your usage allowance.

Re: Traffic Management: Usage penalty

Does that not make the effective usage allowances 13GB and 20GB for options 2 & 3 respectively. This would make the advertised headline allowances of 20 & 300GB on  "up to 8Mb" a bit misleading (not for me obviously because I never reach the heady speeds of even the penalised speeds.)

Re: Traffic Management: Usage penalty

James, Would he still be within the usage levels for option 3 with his off-peak 8am to 4pm added to his current peak usage?
