Torrent Speeds on the £5.99 Package

Ok,
So new customer as of 2 weeks ago
The internet.... runs OK. No problems. Streaming is fine, gaming is OK.
General downloads aren't too bad (when downloading from the web).
Torrent downloads are ridiculous. I've barely seen about 10kb/s. I sometimes leave it on overnight, but 4 nights in, 1 episode of Fringe (350mb's) is around 50%. Not great huh?
o2 £7.50 package (sadly not available since i moved house) had the fastest download speeds I've ever seen (800+ kb/s) and was unlimited as well. jeeesh, i miss the good old days...
so i thought the £5.99 package would be similar.. however, not as good.
im on wireless in the loft, with the router downstairs - will this affect it?

or is the £5.99 for casual facebook internet surfers, n00bs and the like? ie, not hardcore Torrent downloaders?
will  upgrading solve this problem?
all im hoping for is speeds fast enough to kick off a download overnight and for it to be done 8 hours later.

Value is not recommended for frequent usenet/P2P or FTP.
You'd need to upgrade to Premium or Pro to get good speeds for those protocols.
You can see expected speeds for all the products here.

But it says on that link that I should be getting:
11pm-12am 128Kb
Should this mean that at that time I should be getting speeds of 128kb/s..... because in reality I am literally getting a maximum of 5-10 kb/s, usually 0 or 1kb/s.
Am I reading it wrong? Or are them figures a best possible, whereas in reality its more likely to be 1/10th of that speed?

128Kbs <==> 10KBs
(bits -- bytes)
It is like your line is in Mbs but what you expect is MBs. (My line is ~6Mb but I see a max of 600KB on it)
When my throttling kicks in I get ~50K (DOWN to 1K some times)  MAX at 12pm-12am. (I am on the defunct package of Unlimited £20/month)

Confused - LOL!
If I sign up for the up to 8mb speeds package, i expect, when running at 100% efficiency, that I should be able to get download speeds of 800kb/s
is my maths wrong?
cos that then leads me to expect when it says 128kbs, to get download speeds of 128kb/s
at the moment i literally average about 2kb/s

You get what you pay for. The lite package is sold as suitable for general browsing and iplayer, not torrents or nntp.
As I said I pay nearly 4 times that to get 500K for 12 hours.
Unfortunately most people only see the headline cost and don't read the small print, like unsuitable for torrents. However you are on a 1 month contract so you CAN move again.

Broadband sync speeds and the maximum speeds given in the tables are in bits per second. Almost invariably the speeds given by browsers, FTP clients and P2P clients etc. are given in bytes per second.
At 11pm to 12am the maximum speed you will get is 16KBps (K bytes per second)

and another common misconception you have is Up to 8M,  That is the synch speed and ADSL2 is not available on Value, so your max Sysnch speed is 8128K,  this gives a profile speed of 7150K and taking off the overheads a max download speed of 6000-6800 K
Then if you look at the Chart speeds, you will see that these are max figures, and at the bottom it says that these take second preference to time critical activities like VOIP/Gaming, so you non essential P2P will probably be a lot lower at busy times
