I suspect the main problem is that on ADSL1 you will have an IP profile possibly as low as 1500kbps as it goes in rather crude steps (21CN/ADSL2+ now uses a fixed percentage).
With LLU/ADSL2+ (probably dropping automatically to ADSL2) it was probably more lenient, depending how the TT systems worked.

Sorry, not a clue what that means.

Quote You can see your current IP Profile at High Speed Broadband (shown as Current Line Speed ) in My Account or by running a BT Speedtest.
In your account go to https://www.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed and post the result here.
This should show both estimated and current line speeds. Though if you came from TT there may be no estimate recorded.

ABERAERON
Estimated line speed:
1.0Mb (Download speed could vary depending on line conditions. Estimates are the maximum speeds that your phone line can support. These speeds are dependent on the package you choose.) - Checked on 2014-12-15 17:04:14
Current line speed:
1.25 Mb

Worse than I thought, you must have had some bad connections.
Quote from: Matt53 Current line speed: 1.25 Mb
If you could consistently achieve this (or anything above 2016kbps):
it would be 1.75Mb.
Quote from: Matt53 Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 2,144

Are you suggesting I could possibly get faster speeds with Plusnet ?
Thanks again
Matt

Quite likely, but you did say:
Quote from: Matt53 Are you suggesting I could possibly get faster speeds with Plusnet ?
Quote from: Matt53 Please don't expect me to go through the same rigmarole that other poor sods with the same problem have had to on here.

So if a higher speed is possible why don't Plusnet/BT look after their customers better and sort it out ?
How much "Rigmarole" will I have to go through to possibly obtain a faster connection ?

They WILL normally arrange to sort out problems up to the master test socket that are within their/suppliers control, though sometimes, as that is BT infrastructure, it can reach a dead-end.
At present there's no evidence to say where your limitations are and the possible causes.
