Re: Too Slow for YouView

Time is running out for my cabinet to get the upgrade and for me to be able to take advantage. If it is not done within 6 months, I will be stuck on 2 Mbps, despite Sky customers on the estate getting 3 Mbps and others getting fibre.

Sorry, but what has this got to do with the OP's problem in Aberaeron? Can we stay on topic. Cool

Re: Too Slow for YouView

AndyH,
Many thanks for those links, it's nice to know that something is being done in this area to increase broadband speeds, but it doesn't look like it will help me for some time to come.

I've obviously made a HUGE mistake leaving TalkTalk, not only am I getting slower speeds with Plusnet but I also often get disconnected. My broadband connection was down again this morning for about 40 minutes, WHY ? The whole situation is very frustrating and I'm extremely disappointed.

Unknown to you, you moved from ADSL2+ to ADSL1.  Cry
Have you investigated your options/rights on reverting as TT do seem to be the only non-BT-based option at present.  Wink

What were your estimates here http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ ?

Hi again HPsauce,
Re options/rights on reverting to TT, what options or rights do you think may be available to me ? I certainly feel I was conned by the Plusnet advertising.  Sad

Re: Too Slow for YouView

I can't comment as I'm not au fait with the facts and rules applying to your situation, but feelings don't count, facts do.
As they often say "if you don't ask, you don't get".
I think I've seen comments from someone else here in a similar situation that the LLU provider they left had filled their cabinets so going back wasn't even an option.
If it's something you are considering you need to check with both providers what is on offer. Politely, obviously.  Wink
When I moved from an LLU supplier to PN on BT kit I knew it would be slower (and it is) but equally that the service would still be adequate for my needs and overall more cost-effective so I am happy with that.

Re: Too Slow for YouView

Can you post your line stats from your router? Are you connected to the master socket?
(worth checking the basics just in case)

Re: Too Slow for YouView

Hi again AndyH,
Many thanks for helping but I'm sorry to say that when it comes to broadband technicalities I'm as ignorant as a newborn  Smiley
How do I find my line stats from my router ?
Re Master socket, no I'm connected to a socket in my office, the master socket is in the kitchen by the back door. I did connect the router and my laptop to the master socket a few days ago but it made no difference to my speed when using a speed test site.
Thanks
Matt

See here - http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/hardware/technicolor-582n-faqs.shtml#lineStats
It's worth comparing the stats when connected to the test socket on the master socket and your extension.

It wouldn't. And it would need to be the Test Socket behind the faceplate.
Your throughput is managed by a profile system and updating those profiles takes time (and stability) so any such quick test will prove nothing.
(The connection speed as requested by AndyH on the other hand will change)
It may be rather different (and that user is fairly technical) but you may find the outcome in this thread interesting: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,135190.0.html
Just look at the first and last few posts for starters.  Wink This is the latest http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,135190.msg1193996.html#msg1193996

Re: Too Slow for YouView

adsl2+ to adsl1 wont be the sole cause, because adsl2+ is actually worse on long lines than adsl1.  However plain adsl2 should beat adsl1.
I suspect a bigger factor is the chipset talktalk use and their dslam configuration.
