Tiscali to Plusnet

I am on a Market 1 Telephone Exchange (BT Wholesale)    As more people move from Tiscali to Plusnet, does that mean Plusnet download speeds will drop and Tiscali speeds will increase ?

To cut a long story short, no. Tiscali's speeds might increase but ours certainly shouldn't drop.
We increase our capacity in line with customer growth. We've multiple 622 central pipes on order and we're frequently increasing the bandwidth on our 21CN platform:

My exchange will not go to 21CN for another 15 months
I migrated from Tiscalli a week ago, previously I was downloading at 800 to 1100 kbps
Sunday it was 749 to 786
Monday it was 706 to 743
Tuesday it was 694 to 726
Wednesday it was 353 to 392
Today @ 00.13 it was 769 but from 10.39 it has been 323 to 326
Why is that ?

Re: Tiscali to Plusnet

Your connection's dropping out quite frequently. Is this you turning your modem/router on and off?
Session Started	Session Ended	Session Duration
21:35 04/Feb/2010 00:50 05/Feb/2010   3:14:10
10:26 04/Feb/2010 21:34 04/Feb/2010   11:8:34
09:47 03/Feb/2010 00:58 04/Feb/2010   15:10:45
23:48 02/Feb/2010 01:36 03/Feb/2010   1:48:5
17:00 02/Feb/2010 20:16 02/Feb/2010   3:16:10
14:30 02/Feb/2010 17:00 02/Feb/2010   2:29:47
10:08 02/Feb/2010 11:40 02/Feb/2010   1:32:5
14:43 01/Feb/2010 01:23 02/Feb/2010   10:40:32
10:08 01/Feb/2010 12:14 01/Feb/2010   2:6:7
09:53 01/Feb/2010 10:08 01/Feb/2010   0:15:3
00:16 01/Feb/2010 01:30 01/Feb/2010   1:14:3
13:40 31/Jan/2010 21:38 31/Jan/2010   7:58:23
21:28 30/Jan/2010 00:56 31/Jan/2010   3:28:10

Because of some of these drops, your IP/BRAS profile has been fluctuating:
03/02/2010 23:58:55 - 750kbps
03/02/2010 23:31:55 - 750kbps
03/02/2010 02:49:17 - 350kbps
03/02/2010 01:29:53 - 350kbps
30/01/2010 17:44:38 - 750kbps
30/01/2010 17:25:03 - 750kbps
29/01/2010 23:20:17 - 1000kbps

The poor speeds yesterday is because we'd had your line profiled at 350kbps since 2010-02-04 03:26:04. Last night at 2010-02-04 22:09:14 this reverted back to 750kbps.
How have you got things wired up there and what telephone socket is your modem/router plugged into? What else is plugged into your phone line, are you using any extension cabling and are all the telephony devices that use your line running through a filter?

Re: Tiscali to Plusnet

Bob,
Thanks for your reply.
I switch off router 4-5 times a day.
I have old type BT socket.
BT line extention lead about 25 feet.
Only PC and phone off single filter at end of extention lead.
My Bt Speedtester results:
03/02/10 10:59 down= 319, DSL= 928, IP= 350
04/02/10 10:48              287              896        750
05/02/10 10:49              625            1056        750
I will try moving router to BT socket later on today
Regards

Re: Tiscali to Plusnet

The lads on this forum always advise rebooting the router around midday/early afternoon when the line should be quieter.
Once you've done that, best not to switch the router off again and to leave it on 24/7 or if you aren't comfortable with that, just switch off at night only.
I leave mine on all the time and the connection is excellent.

Bob,
At 14:00 I disconnected phone from filter , down changed from 700 to 696
I then disconnected router and fitted the new filter supplied by Plusnet with router in place of my old filter
Unable to fully connect with I.E. but received your general emails on the then current DSL problems
Re-fitted old filter and finally got connected to I.E. at  19:12 with a down of 509
BT Speed at 19:21 was Down = 427, DSL = 832, IP = 500
I will leave router on for 24 hours before attempting any changes, is that OK ?
Regards
