Timouts

I'm seeing regular  timeouts or slow loading of pages at all times the last couple weeks.
It can take anything from 1 sec to a minute to refresh a page..or it just times out.
The BT Speedtests show
First test  - showed almost zero as download! Presumably timed out. I typically get 25-26mb
Final test (showed 2mb)..
"Your service was found to be performing poorly.
Please raise a fault with your service provider, stating that the BT Performance Tester tool indicates poor service throughput performance after the third test."
Tracerts to various addresses are showing frequent timeouts...

Ive tried resetting the router, disconecting my phones so only the BB is connected (to the two-port master). No difference.
Only thing left to try is replace the Ethernet cable. But nothing has moved in the last 18 months. The PC is two feet from the router on a 8' patch.
However i  see intermittent drop outs on my iPad too so suspect its not my local cabling.
Any suggestions..?  The tests would imply there is an issue with my broadband.....but i guess i ought to dig out a spare ethernet patch today.
Unfortunately i dont have a spare router.

Re: Timouts

Without denying that you may have a problem, please be aware that timeouts from intermediate steps in a traceroute do no necessarily mean there's an issue.  I could simply be that those particular hosts do no support the ICMP protocol that traceroute relies on.  For example in your first trace, the gateways at hops 8. 9, 10 and 11 are clearly forwarding your packets otherwise you wouldn't get a reply from hop 12 or later.
To start to get to grips with your underlying issue, can you post line statistics from your router?  If you don't know how, then let us know what make and model and someone will be sure to know..    Alternatively get a fault raised with Plusnet, they'll be able to run checks on your line and on your account settings.

Re: Timouts

Do you have a spare microfilter?  If so, then try your router connected via this filter directly to the test jack socket (revealed by removing the DSL faceplate.  Then you've done all you can to eliminate problems with your equipment.  Personally I think you should raise this with Plusnet, get them to run their tests.  Post back here if what they say doesn't make sense to you.

Re: Timouts

Hi @exileshope,
Diagnostics don't show me anything obvious.
I can see you've started to report a fault but not all the information has been filled out.
If you can take two minutes back at http://faults.plus.net and we'll be able to take it from there for you.
